Howdy,

How much would I be looking at to get my block bored, honed, surfaced, and line bored for new billet mains? I'm assuming I can do the oiling mods myself with a die grinder. Also will Stage II heads fit a Stage I block and whats the advantage of a Stage I block over a stock block? Will a stock crank hold down ~650 hp in a billet cap and girdled Stage I block?

Thanks,

A Stage I is the same casting as a Stage II but is machined to stock block specs (14 bolt oil pan). So the extra 6 head bolt holes and 4-bolt mains at 2&3 are missing, but can be machined in. I believe that they have steel caps.

I don't know if you can use the Stage II heads, but if you do then you have issues with intake, and possibly exhaust.

The timing cover needs to be for a 14 bolt oil pan block and if it has 4 bolt mains the oil pickup is moved and a special pickup or external sump used.

You probably won't need a girdle at that level since the block is stronger and beefier.

That is about the extent of the results of my prior research on Stage I blocks.

Tom
