has anyone ever thought of moving the MAF and air temp sensors to the up pipe? Wouldn't this give a more accurate reading as to what is going in the motor? I'm just bored and thinking....

opinions

What are the pros and cons to MAF relocation Bruce?

On some cars it there might be a need to tweak the chip a little. I do my own chips so that's not been a concern for me. I've heard of folks running Trashers, and Extenders without a hitch.

The biggie is that the late MAFs do their own temp corrections, so you can 0 out the MAF/IAT corrections. Then if you relocate the IAT to the plenum, and figure out the Timing MAT table, you have the utmost in a chip that compensates for all climates/conditions. No more detonation due to low or high MAT temps..

The down side is the it does take some work, just another goodie, that's not a 3 min modification. And you need to be more carefull about the uppipe so it doesn't blow off.

Another goodie is that the turbo is designed as a pressure pump, and it does a lousy job of drawing in air. With the turbo on the pressure side of the turbo, it's not longer as much of a restriction.
Which means if your trying to get by with too small of injector, it just makes matters worse since the engine is trying to make a few more ponies, and that means needing more fuel.

yeah, just like that! I was just exploring ways to take parts off my car on my day off and screw around. I guess I should go to work more often and stop playing with this thing....

thanks for the input Bruce and other fellow tb.com-ers
