Well I pulled my motor to investigate a lower motor knock and my suspicions were confirmed. I found gold metal shavings in the oil pan. Motor is going to ANS for a rebuild, but here what i need to know. How do I clean out the oil cooler lines, I had a PTE remote oil filter (turbo saver) so I assume my turbo should be ok.(RIGHT?). Anthing else I need to check or change? Any help is appreciated....thanks

I used an elecrtic powered pump to flush the oil cooler lines and cooler. Many here believe it is not possible to flush the oil cooler (so I assume that would apply to the lines too) but when running a large volume, and at some pressure, of laquer thinner - followed by an oil clean out, I believe it does a very good job of cleaning - especially if a piece of 1/8" cable is run through the cooler and lines while being spun on a drill motor.

I do not know much about the turbo saver but would assume that the lines after to filter would be good - lines up to the filter should be flushed/replaced as all the fitings - everything else should be cleaned by the machine shop because they are doing the engine including the front cover - right?

ANS is doing motor including the front cover. My radiator is a Nick Micale unit and I was just using the oil cooler lines in it. Can a radiator shop just put new lines in my radiator or would I be better off getting a after market oil cooler?

You CANNOT clean the oil cooler. Period. Either have a shop replace the cooler, or add an external cooler. I had a local hydraulic hose shop make me new hoses for my turbo saver. Cheap insurance. Besides, they told me the hoses it came with suck. I got better ones, not very expensive.

After doing a search on the turbo saver I am now worried about damage to my turbo from unfiltered oil from the bypass. How do I check my turbo for any damage this may have caused? Also I did not install the turbo saver so its possible the bypass was blocked by the previous owner, what do I look for to see if the bypass was blocked?? Thanks Gene and Sam, I will get new lines or a aftermarket cooler...

turbo should be ok, but do not reuse ANY old parts start fresh and you should be in good shape but for cheap insurence just start from bare block. i have been there done that on 3 of the cars i have built and have not had any problems.

you will find out about the turbo later.....if the bypass wasn't blocked, it is a matter of time...nothing you can check

turbo savers=waste of $$

(If you live in IL and drive the car in the winter, I doubt the bypass was blocked....prolly blow the filter off in the winter)
