Was using a buddies 110 Lincoln mig with gas today and it was welding horribly. It kept pushing me off the metal. It would start welding but then it would stop push my hand back then burn again. This kept happening again and again. Tried different wire speeds but i could not get it to burn continuously. Checked the contact tip and it is correct for the wire. Any ideas?

One thing that alot of people forget about when you weld with gas you have to switch the polarity of the power/ground inside the machine. It's opposite of when welding flux core. You could just have bad ground or way too high wire speed though too.

After you get your polarity straight, what wire are you pushing and what gas mixture are you using? Metal type, thickness, is it windy? Lots goes into a stack of dimes.

All welding surfaces ground down...GOOD? And a fresh spot for the ground clamp... Mike
