OK, which part of a TR pisses you off the most?


For me, it's easy... The fricking cam sensor! I've lost an engine, and 4 pushrods to that damn thing.


Honorable mention: The little covers over the bolts on the upper door handle inside the car.

um how about lack of a part? PROPER GAUGES in the dash! sheesh these cars were THE best in the 80's as far as performance and i think they deserved a little better than an 85 mph speedo and the stupid idiot light system...oh no you have overheated! too late! or you are very low on oil...oh wait it's too late!

part that pisses me off the most that came stock on a TR is the power "disaster" master brake system...when my car was nearly stock i went through 6 yes count them 6 units...thank god i have a lifetime warranty on it from a local parts supplier! finally found one that has lasted more than 2 years! (knock on wood!)

Got to be the stock driver's side header and crossover. Every stock header I've seen is cracked between no. 3 & 5 and the crossover is as thin as tissue paper.

the loose nut behind the steering wheel, in front of the drvier seat.

Personally I think that the factory mass airflow sensor sucks the big one. I believe that a stock turbo can surpass the 255 grams per second max. I've been through about 6 remanufactured units that all suck as well. Hopefully I can go T+ soon.

Then there is the ecm. Most of them are great but it takes a miracle for a bad component to throw a code on my ecm.

maf, rear main, and paint, in that order. The minor stuff like the screw covers on the door I don't care that much about. I fixed 2 out of 3 of the maf/main/paint trio and then promptly crunched my car. Oops.

well let's see.
-crappy makes no sense wiring
-WEAK flimsy chassis (if it's gonna have a frame at least make it stronger than a unibody)
-seats
-no arm rest
-full floating, slow windows
-wimpy thin door jams (striker area)

and all of the above
but


I still love my TR, even with all the crappy engineering

I know this is a TR thread but I gotta air some laundry about the TTA. The rediculous hatch pull-down thingy made of clear plastic that's supposed to catch a 300# hatch falling fast since the struts that support it suck. The 7.5" rear end/grenade. All the TTA-only parts like headers, heads, rockers, pistons, motor mounts, spark plugs, valve covers, I/C scoop, etc.
I feel better now.

PS. At least my dr. header hasn't cracked!

You'd better go outside and look. Murphy has a funny habit of hearing things like that.

I have several things I'm sure I can gripe about, but I just keep in mind that these cars are now 15+ years old and were built in a time when American cars were not of very high quality. It actually still amazes me that they pulled off a stunt like the 3.8 turbo sfi with all the electronics involved. 80s were not a shining time for such endeavors.
