I've said it before in oil cooler discussions, I think the fact that bypassing the stock cooler doesn't raise oil temps only means that the stock one is garbage, NOT that you don't need one at all. Really it depends on your application. But if you like playing on the gas pedal, I would not eliminate an oil cooler on a turbocharged vehicle.

Do you have an oil temp guage?

I do.

With the sender in the pan, my oil temps were always 170-190 with the cooler. Max I saw was just over 205.

Without the cooler, It is about 10 degrees more. I have seen 220 worst case. Never more. Well within normal temps.

My car is never babied on the street. At the dragstrip it never gets over 170. 414/468 to the wheels 5 years ago. 11.73@116.4 recently.

I would love to hear some experiences from some other people with oil temp sensors. Usually the people who say the oil cooler is mandatory have no temp monitor whatsoever.

As I have said in these discussions before, I will get an oil cooler before I run the Silver State Challenge. I see no need for one on a street/strip car (My street car)

Those of you who have aftermarket oil and trans coolers,
Do you have a way to push out the old oil/fluid when doing and oil change?
Or
Do just leave the old contaminated oil in the coolers and add the new old to the Crankcase?
I am thinking of installing a Ball valve with a “T” in line on the supply line So that when I do an oil change I could close the Ball valve open the “T” and hook up my compressor (At a very low setting) and blow the oil out of the Coolers and into the crankcase to drain out with the rest of the oil.
How terrible of idea is this??

What I use to do was back to back oil changes
The first oil change was with the cheapest oil in the store with the cheapest oil filter.
Then run the car for one or two minutes then do another oil change but with the good stuff the second time around. With current oil prices that’s not happening anymore.

FWIW I used that same cooler on my Chevelle that had a 3000 stall converter in iit, without any problems. I will say I like the plate style coolers better though, as they are more durable than those tube and fin type coolers.

One thing I would recommend if you can afford it is get the one that doesn't utilize the hose barbs, but instead uses screw on AN fittings. Such as this one: B&M 70266 - B&M SuperCooler Oil Coolers - summitracing.com

That's how I'm going to do my car as soon as I get the parts and funds to do it.

Thats what I have & I also added an Inline Oil Filter mounted in the engine bay that uses a reg oil filter that I change every 6 months. Works Great!
Get some Good Lines made up & it will last forever. My lines are overkill with 130,000 PSI fittings but its what my buddy had made for me. Cant beat it!

I agree with Lee Thompson, 3/8" in & out are too small for oil.

1/2" is better - I run #10 an fittings & lines.

Most flexable line fittings restrict flow to less than the line size. #8 an restricts floe to 7/16" & #10 an restricts flow to 9/16" (more than 1/2").

I also use Earls coolers, the better cooling design than tube & fin.

Whir you using the Stock cooler or an after market cooler like the ones listed in this thread?

Stock cooler.

I would not worry about completely flushing every drop of oil. Lots of oil stays in the motor anyway. Just change it regularly.

Those Earls coolers are very nice.

I have 2 B&M coolers. 1 for the trans, 1 for the oil. The one that I have for the oil is located under the center of my intercooler, I guess a rock or something hit the oil cooler and it started leaking bad:eek: . I replaced it with a new one but I'm just letting you guys know so you can watch out for this problem.
