Motorcycle VIN / Police Question

I have the chance to get 3 motorcycle's from my mom's friend. To sell or keep for myself. (not sure on the details) I think 1 is a street bike & other 2 are motoX

These motorcycles belonged to her son who is not around anymore. Lets say for certian reasons.

I am leery of these bikes possibly not being 100% legit.
Will a POLICE DEPT run a VIN check on them if I submit a request?

I have had some vehicle VINs ran at the Sherriff Office and with my buddy at an Insurance office with no problem as long as they were'nt busy at the moment. If they come back with a "problem" ie...HOT, they will want to know where they are.

It's not legal in Michigan for a law enforcment agency to run a LEIN check for a private sale. Here a person can get a "commercial look-up" at the Secretary of State office (AKA DMV) on such things for a few $.
