Need help switching speedometer cluster

I didn't think it would be this difficult. Am I doing something wrong? I'm want to switch out entire cluster with green base but I don't have enough slack on the wires to remove mine.

can you taqke the trim panle under the steering column down and reach up there from undermeath and behind to disconnect it?

It's the speedo cable. Just tilt the cluster forward, jam your hand in there and there is a clip you have to pucs to release the cable - push it towards the cluster.
