need help with power issue from battery

was driving my car(for the first time in a year) the other night...the car was runing good...all of a sudden the car shuts off in the middle of the road while i am driving....the battery is dead(the battery was brand new that day)...so i get a jump move about 5 feet and it does it again....figure it was the alt. so today i changed the alt.(which lead to my wanted ad..i broke the tensioner pully bracket) started the car and it is still doing the same thing....i checked the wires seem fine....any other ideas...i dont know if this is a common problem...please help...thanks

Check the grounds on the block, and the starter connections for corrosion. Does the alternator light work? If the bulbs burnt in the dash the alternator wont charge. WHat the volts while the car is running, if its under 13 volts you have a big problem. The battery cable sometimes shorts out or melts by the header.
