Yup, pathetic, I even need to post a thread about getting the belt off. Car show in a few hours...not gunna go if I can't get this worn belt replaced.

I can't get the tensioner to move just by pulling in the direction the diagram shows, and I didn't think it was like newer tensioners where you rotate the bolt one way or the other to get some slack in the belt, so what am I doing wrong? I'm a fairly big guy, should it require an olympic athlete to pull this tensioner away from the belt?

Hopefully someone is awake already to answer.

you can use a prybar, put the curved edge of the prybar underneath the tensioner pulley and use the aternator pulley for leverage.

Hm...alright. Limited tools around my house at the moment but I'll see what I can do.

I use a socket large enough to fit the bolt on the tensioner and a standard size 1/2" drive breaker bar. Turn in the direction as though you were trying to tighten the bolt. This lifts/moves it off of the belt.

you could use the crowbar in the trunk. i am pretty sure that it would be 18 -19mm socket if you use the breaker bar.

Alright I got it to work with the clockwise turn method. I tried that at first, but I didn't turn the nut far enough, for some reason it appeared to me that the idler was just turning, not moving off the belt. I went out there and turned it as far as I could and got a lot of slack in the belt. We'll see how much fun I have with the new belt when the stores open in 20 mins. Thanks for the early morning replies everyone, enjoy the 4th.
