I have a problem that has stumped me so here's the facts...

87 T. Decided to rinse the engine bay as I often do. (never have had any issues).

Started the car and drove around a bit. Then it dies. IAC drops to about 9 and the car quits. I've got fuel, spark etc. Any ideas? IAC and tps are new and properly set...

God is puninshing you for not going to the get-together yesterday. J/K, Louis.
I've never had a problem with any of my turbobricks, but they do run sort of crappy when I have gotten the electrics wet from a high pressure wash hose.
But on a '86 vette that I used to have, a high pressure hose would kill the TPS every time. But the clue there was that it would run somewhat sluggish and random on the way home from the car wash, but the next morning it would not start unless the idle was up above about 1500 or so, and irt would not idle below about 1500 either. Turned out to be the TPS every time, 4 times to be exact. HTH

I've seen it lots of time where people say the TRs don't like to have their engine bays washed. A happy TR is a dirty TR <g>

I'd spend some time with your air hose blowing out connectors.

Remember, there'a a gasket under the coil pack, if it's in bad shape, you could have a nice puddle under there too.

The TPS should be checked easy enough with the scanmaster, u do have one right?

Hope you didn't get the MAF wet! I washed the engine compartment once and water got into the stock air box. Started the car and drove a little bit and then started to run like crap. I wound up sucking water up through the MAF and ruined it.

Right after I posted this I went out to move the car and finally got a mal code 41. (Cam Sensor). I'll have to look into it. If it's taking a crap I'll just swap it out and all will be well with the world again. If any one has other ideas about the 41 code please feel free to chime in.

BTW, Gary, looked like a nice turnout yesterday... I was too busy to spend all day driving yesterday so I took "Angry Black" out along with another follow TR owner and we did a nice cruise down the 101...

Louis:
Might want to get out the hair drier and blow dry all of the sensors as much as possible, expecially the tps. A defective crank sensor will stop the motor and it may never start again till it is replaced. Water pump failures allowing the draining water to run down on the crank sensor will do this sometimes. Ask me how I know.
It was a very good turnout, sorry that you could not make it.

I dried everything. I pulled the ignition module connector and dried it and hit is with some dielectric. Even took the coil pack off the module to double check it. It too was dry.

I'll have to pull apart the cam sensor and check my connections. It's not a hard fix. Luckily:rolleyes:
