Just wondering what could be the problem. I'm probably going to get the extra check valve for the pcv. I have about 400 miles on it now, and oil comes out of the dipstick every time the boost comes up. Could it be because the rings aren't seated yet?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

azgn, I bought the cheapie chrome breathers at the local parts store just to get the car running.

The pistons are brand new TRWs.

did you use the grommets that came with them? the kind that have little flaps that overlap??

if so, you need to trim those flaps so they don't seal up under boost:)

It's either the PCV system or blowby. Make sure you ahve a Delco PCV, correct breathers, etc. Since it is a new engine, you may be having break in issues. Be sure you aren't doing a lot of idling until the rings are seated. Change the oil frequently (500 miles or so the first few times).

Do a leak down.. That will give you a true indication if your rings are seated. Then go from there... just my .02

oil out of dipstick.

It's your rubber grommets for sure not your breathers, cut the flaps out that azgn mentioned. Seen it happen to many times.

You blew a head gasket

Do a leak down test first

it is what happed at my last run
at the race track

If it isnt the grommets, Its the headgasket or a broken piston. sk any good turbo engine builder and they will tell you sealing rings on a boosted engine isnt a problem if machined correctly, I was told by a top builder that once your new engine is up to temp and you have no leaks, THe best thing to do is bring it up on boost and the rings will seat almost instantly, It seems that the pressure from teh boost forces the rings outward and seating easily.

A friend talk to Red A. and Red vote for a head gasket and/or
a few pistons in my case. I talk to Rick Harper too and he vote
like Red A. If some body remember Tim Stockwell story on
gnttype.org he talk about head gasket failure.
(dipstick rejection phenomena are not funny)

I hope in your case it will only a grommet but in my
case I think it was not a grommet failure in the
middle of the race track. But it is for me
a opportunity to install a 445 with a
little bowl porting job.

Hope it help

I checked the pcv grommets again. I remember having to cut the bottom of them off when I originally put them in. They were sealed up. The holes inside the breathers aren't too big, so I'm going to run it without em. If that doesn't work, I'll do a leakdown check. Hopefully that will give me some answers. When I think back, this problem existed right when I got the car together.

BTW, the heads are Weber ported irons that have the lockwire in em. I was told to use the stock type graphite gaskets.

Thanks again guys for all your help. I'll keep ya posted.

Well, I ran the car kinda hard today with the pcv disconnected and the cheap breathers out. Oil doesn't seem to be coming out as much, but still a little bit.

I tried everybody I could think of to borrow a leakdown tester, but no luck. So I ordered a new one from Jegs.
