So I've got a 6K original miles motor that I'm putting new GN-1 heads on. I'm also changing the cam to a 214/208 (ATR), and new lifters. I neglected to mark the position of the push rods when taking them out. Because of this (like the lifters), do I need new ones, or are they usable without being in their original position?

Also, (my ignorance of motor internals shows) is there a top and bottom to them? They look perfectly Symmetrical to me.

Thx,
Terry

I cant stress this enough: get A pushrod length checker. Then get the correct lenth lifters.

when you mess with diff head hieghts and diff lifters, it gets wacky.

If you have any problems with the length checker, you can ask people on the board.

Either way, you can't use the stock length pushrods. They're about .100" too short for GN1 heads. The correct length is 8.850" I believe. But I agree that you should get a pushrod length checker to verify.

I've got GM lifters on order. But Trbobuick, you're answering a different question (while it may be useful info). Now then, are you suggesting that I check the pushrod length w/stock GM pushrods?

Ah ha...

So forget the stock pushrods. Alright then, where's a good place to get the proper 8.850" (I'll confirm w/Champion) pushrods?

Thanks Eric Stage I.

8.300"

Just spoke with Tom at Champion. He says that with hydrolic roller cams, one will need a 8.300" length pushrod. Eric Stage I, you were correct, 8.850" if using the stock cam.

Thanks guys.
