I've noticed a fair amount of gray smoke on initial start ups now with my new motor (6K orig. mi. stock short block; new GN1 heads ATR RP314B cam). I only see it at start up...is this normal for this set up?

Did you use stock headgaskets? I used fel pro 1000s on my GN1s and they leaked water till I changed them. It would blow a cloud when I started it and when I'd get on it.

Yes, stock head gaskets. This is definately not steam...it's just gray smoke...unburned fuel. Lasts only for the first few seconds of start up.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the rail? Does it hold pressure for long after the car is shut off? If it isn't, then maybe an injector or two is throwing that fuel into the cylinder and burns when it is started. Just a thought...

No, FP stays for long time after shut off. It's been 10 minutes since my last errand (whereby I slaughtered a loaded up '69 Chevelle with all kinds of hardware sticking up from his hoodless engine bay). I just checked the FP and it's still at 38 psi.
