Hey hows it going everyone, Im not sure if im posting in the right area, b if not redirect me, alright

Im currently going to be a purchasing a 1987 GN with 14000km (7000miles). Heres the questions that I should hopefully get answered, the car has been sitting for the last 15 years or so in a garage, being started occasionly and being run only on nice days, The paint is original with no rust or anything at all. The plastic is still on the seats!

My question is after a car sits like this for so long what type of common mechanical failures am I lookin at occuring after I begin driving it, how are the seals on most 87 GN nowadays? (oil leak wise)

The car does need new tires thats no big deal, but what else should I be looking at doing to the car before driving after it sat so long, All the fluids are made by redline thats in it now, If anyone has a list of what I should do before driving this car please inform me, thanks

Welcome to the Dark-side Trip! ;)

This subject has come up before on this board. You might try a couple of different searches for things like "sitting" and "extended storage" and whatever else you can think of.

In general terms, turbo Buicks are no different than any other vehicle - they need to be driven at least a little. It sounds like you might be allright if the current owner did at least start it once in a while.

I believe one of the best starting points (probably even *before* new tires) is to drain the gas tank, remove it, clean it (remove all debris and varnish that may have accumulated over the years) and install a new fuel pump and filter. Then change all the fluids, and flush the cooling system.

As for the seals, they weren't very good to begin with so you'll probably have to replace the rear main seal at the very least.
