Wow I dont really like that idea, I was cool w/ the parachutes deploying if the engine explodes and finding a different parachute material, they did say they would break a lot less but it still wont be the same.

Wow, I like it, I have said to myself for years that it should be 1,000', now I can not answer as to why, maybe it just sounds logical to me, but that is just
me, 1/8 is to short and a 1/4 too long, 1,000', yes, and gets my vote.

No doors, no care! Wish they put Pro Modified, Outlaw 10.5 and Drag Radial on TV...

If you will read the headline carefully it said "interim" that to me does not mean permant.

Maybe I can say in the future that my car ran a high 9 and people will think WOW that car really hauls.

This is stupid. Maybe they ought to make all NFL fields 75 yards so QB cant hurt their arms throwing far.

if you read carefully.

it says top fuel and funny cars only, this doesnt mean our cars are included, so 1/4 mile tracks will hang around regardless and they will be used as 1/4 mile as usual for slower cars, but for dragsters and cars going over 300mph i think is a good idea.

NHRA is based around top fuel and funny cars.. if this stays, NHRA will go down in size and tracks that support NHRA races will loss attendance and will close.. Englishtown was on the chopping box last year, i give it 1 or 2 more years and it will go bye bye due to this crash :(.

Time for restrictor plates ala NASCAR. Remember there was talk of doing this YEARS ago, now it has come to be. Never thought I would see the day but TF and FC is getting so fast I guess they have to do something. Of course, making the shut down areas longer which is what SHOULD be done is not always an option due to real estate / $$$$ isssues.

i agree, 1/4 has been the norm.- longer shut down and traps.

The NHRA has tried to spin off TF/FC for years. They thought they had them sold to direct TV this year, but it fell through due to the economic downturn.

They are likely trying to make these two classes more appealing to a potential buyer (trust me, the top NHRA guys were salivating over the millions they would make with a sale).

I seriously doubt it will change the way all other classes are run at least for now. If they did, there would be a revolt and a new sanctioning body would appear, offering "outlaw" 1/4 mile racing. The NHRA won't let that happen.

Bye-bye 1/4, the 1000 track is what 1/5 ??? Besides how fast do these topfueler pass a distance of 320ft ? 1 sec???? I think there is really no difference in 1 sec, so many things can happen in a split sec. This is messsed up. IMHO.

Funny, I was flipping through a bunch of my dads old car magazines from the early 70's and they were talking about doing this in 1973.

I doubt they will change everything to 1000ft. If you notice, most tracks already give a 1000ft time on your timeslip, so the timers are already in place. No real changes have to be made.

Wait i got even a better ideal, why dont we just shut down all drag racing and then no one will be getting killed or hurt at an event.
