Nitto 555R drag radials VS. BFG Drag radials

Which tire has the most "bang for the buck" on the street and track.

What are your experiences?

The BFG's hook a lil better at the track but they do not last long(3K for me) and don't even think about driving them in the rain. The nitto's hook good, you can drive them in the rain , and they last a lot longer (15K on a friends car). I would go with the nittos.

Or you can wait for people to reply...yes, it's all been said before, but some of us like to repeat our stories.

Depending on your combo...meaning if you're making enough power, it's not going to matter which DR you've got. I've got the Nitto DR's, and with my new set up, they don't hook. Especially on colder (45º) days. Cold pavement, tires, and cold air for the IC to makes tons of power...not a good combo for hookage.

I would agree with all the above.
I run the Nittos on my LS1 Z28, and am extremely happy with them. The BFG's will hook better at the track, simply because they have very little tread cut into them. As mentioned, the BFG's absolutely suck in the rain, and the first time you get a good hard 1-2 shift, the back end is going to swing you around sideways.
On cold mornings, I can fry my Nittos as if they were regular radials, but, at the same time, if you heat them up, they work fine.
Two weeks ago I was cutting 1.71 60' times, in 38-40* temps at the track. I had to do John Force style burnouts, but once heated, they hooked just fine. Of course, my LS1 only makes 345rwtq, as opposed to the 455rwtq my old TR made, so you have to consider that too.
My overall suggestion would be, daily drive with the Nittos, and get a good pair of slicks for the track. The Nittos are wonderful in the rain, per the single-directional V-pattern tread.

My opinion, BFG's for better 60's at the track, Nitto's for more street racing type use (safer in the rain as well).

I've had both and like the Nittos better. I tried them on my 96 WS6 with a 6spd and 4.10. The Nittos were more consistent and lasted 15K miles compared to the BFG's 6K miles.

BFGDRs 315/40/17 : 1.80(best)
NittoDrs 275/40/17: 1.75(best)

I didn't even try the BFGs on the TA. 10K miles and still showing tons of tread

NittoDrs 245/50/16: 1.65(best so far)

I use the BFG R1 Radial and works great...A little tricky in the rain but hey who the hell try's to make boost in the rain? But when it is dry whoa baby.....

I tried both and had much better luck wiht the nittos. They are great on the street, and they hooked awesome at the track also. I was running 1.60 60fts. Just do a big burnout the first time you use the nittos, and they will kinda season themselves. Also the less tread that they have the better they hook at the track.

I've got the BFG 275/50/15 on my car and I can do 7-8psi launch in the street with NO spinning at all, and thats with no burnout and a TE61.

buickfreak...that's odd. I suspect it was warm out? My DRs grip FAR better on a warm street vs. a chilly one. Also, I'm sure the exact grip of each street makes a big diff.

Nitto's all the way.

I have BFG's on the GN now, and have to lower the air pressure down to 20 psi to get a solid 6-8 psi launch on the street. Plus, the Nitto's get better traction in the rain, and last far longer.

neither one is worth a damn for traction if you are making lots of power......although, they are both better than regular radials.......Nitto's seem to last longer but no 275X60 size yet?

I have bought my last drag radial.......I'll just stick with regular tires on the street and change 'em at the track

Nitto makes a 275/60 size now.

I'ved gone through 3 sets of 275/50 BFG's and 1 set of 275/60 BFG's. The 60's hook better and last longer than the 50's.

My next set will be Nitto 275/60's though.
