Hello Everybody!!

A couple of weeks ago I posted a message regarding the loud noise I hear in my differential after long trips. Several members of this forum suggested me to add GM POSI LUBE ADDITIVE.

I recently did add a bottle of additive and I have to tell you that the noise has reduced but did not entirely dissapear.

This noise in the differential only appears after long trips of 60 miles or more, on short trips to the supermarket there is no noise. It seems to me that the oil may loose viscosity on longer runs?

Has anybody experienced this situation of differential-noise-after-long-trips?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Patricio Grez

You need to be more specific as to what kind of noise and when is it that you hear noise turning a corner on throutle of throutle etween 40 and 60 mph?

It is mostly a creaking noise very difficult to describe but pretty scary. It is much louder when I make turns or go in reverse. But it also happens going straight at lower velocities.

As I said, this noises appear only after driving for 50 or 60 miles, on shorter trips there is no noise.
Regards

If it is a creaking noise then we can elimenate all pinion, carrierand axle bearings even ring and pinion gear noise.Which leaves us with spider gears and clutches. If i were to guess i would say clutches.I recom removeing diff cover and take a look at spider gears and look at what type o f debris that is in there and maybe take a look at the clutches.Put fresh oil with gm posi lube and see what happens?Keep us posted.

Humberto, before removing the differential cover I put fresh oil with gm posi lube and drived for 80 miles today without any noises in the differential.
THANKS A LOT!!

But how did you put fresh oil without removeing diff cover?I would remove all old oil then put in fresh oil.

I did not do it myself, I took it to a service station where they sucked the old oil befor puting the new one including the additive. As I tell you, after driving for many many miles the nise never appeared again.
