Hey guys I have a non lock up converter just sitting in my trunk...I know they say you need to change the lock-up valve or something if you install a non lock up converter...Is there anyway around that, or is the $60 valve absolutely necessary?

If I do have to change the valve can I get some instructions this will be my first venture into the strange and confusing automatic transmission, other then changing the fluid and filter.

By the way I know this should be in tranny tech not general, but I'm trying to get some answers quick I would love to put this thing in this Sat.

You need to install the non-lock valve in the pump. This isn't a hard task and it can be done by dropping the trans pan and removing the TCC solenoid. You need a decent pair of small snap ring pliers. I made a special tool out of a small pair of needlenose pliers

Gil Younger (TransGo) makes a non-lock kit that isn't too expensive. I buy my trans stuff from Transtar (nationwide transmission parts vendor). Transtar list this valve as a 700-r4 part. The 700-r4 and 200-R4 share the same design front pump and most parts interchange. The part number is: P/N K61908V

If you need more advice, send me a PM. look here
