Hey guys
I know that there are a ton of threads on tire questions. I looked through page after page and I think I am going to go with the Nitto 275/50 R15. I was wondering if those would work with BFG’s radial tires in the front. Or should I stick with the BFG in the drag radials. Also what can I do until they come in the mail to get traction at the track I am spinning like crazy. I lowered the rear to 25 psi. and it still wont grab. I was talking to a friend and he suggested raising the front air pressure. Will that help???
Thanks
David

Raising the front tire pressure should help MPH more then 60'.

I run about 18 PSI in my street radials helps but not much.

How many miles do you need to get out of the tires?

If you really want to stick at the track get a set of slicks or DOT slicks. Put them on when racing.

Otherwise the BFG's are known to stick better than the Nittos but last a little less than half as long about 5K miles tops vs. about 10-12K for the Nittos.

Depends on what you really want to do and what you can afford to do.

I am very happy with my new Hoosier QTP's for racing and Nittos for daily driving. :)

Both the BFG and the Nittos should work well with your current front tires.

Savage who are you asking about the milage on the tires??

Strikeeagle.
I thought that 275/60 15 are 26 inches tall my bfg radial T/A measure 25 inches. I read that you only need to go to the 275/60 15 if you are running under 12 seconds. I don’t want to risk rubbing a new set of tires.

I drive my car 40mi to and from the track every other week and occasionally around town. So the BFG’s will give me a better result on the track?? From previous post I thought the Nitto’s were better? By the way I have about $300-350 to spend.
Thanks for all the help

There are some guy's here that have said to run in the 12's on regular street radials with 1.9 60's.

I spent many a day at the track with my 265/50/15 BFG radials and never could get out of the 13's or below 2.10 60 ft. Tried all the tricks. Went with a BFG drag radail and its 12.28 and 1.8 60ft.

Looking back I would go with real slicks for the track and use the radials for the street. Just my experience.

In my opinion, if you really want traction, go to a set of M/T ET Streets. These are basically slicks that are DOT approved so you can drive on them to the track. Keep another set of tires for daily driving. If you are not concerned about looks at the track, get another set of cheap, light rims for the ET streets.

I have a new set of 275/60 Nittos as my daily driver tires and a new set of 28x11.5 ET Streets on some spare GNX type rims. I just switched over to the ET Streets today. Driving on the street is like night and day. I can burn the Nittos at will in first gear while I can barely spin the ET Streets at all. Now imagine how much better that will be at the track.

I was going to try the Nittos at the track first just to see what they can do. But the other day playing around I saw that I can now hold at least 15psi on the brake now (upgraded to soft brake shoes and S-10 wheel cylinders). I figured the Nittos won't handle more than a few psi launch so I brought out the ET Streets. I will probably try launching at 10psi and see what happens.

You could get some 26x10.5 ET Streets that shouldn't rub at all. I have upgraded springs and airbags that help my clearance with the taller tires.

Hope this helps.

I was asking the original poster about how many miles he needs to get out of his tires.

I agree with Murphster some sort of sticky tires for the track and Nittos for daily driving.

If you get the DOT rated ones you can always say you raced on "street" tires. ;)

The 27 x 10.5 Hoosiers fit nicely on 8" rims with no rubbing. :)

3.75" backspacing.

Are you talking about the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Tires they were the only one’s that I saw on jeg’s that were DOT approved. That sounds like a good idea but what do you do with your jack and tires while you are running on the strip. Also what size rim do you use for these jeg’s says 8.5” will my stock 7” work? If I got these I would probably leave them on full time because I don’t dive it on the street that much mostly to and from the track. What kind of tread life would I expect from these tires??
Thanks
David

P,S i would be happy getting 5,000 miles out of these tires, that would last me a little over two years.

No, I'm referring to just the ET Streets, not the radials. A lot more sticky and should solve your traction issues.

These tires are street legal, but you wouldn't want to run them all the time. They don't have a sidewall and you can feel the car sway if you have the pressure at lower levels. They are basically slicks with a couple grooves to make them street legal (they are a different bias from radials and are much more stickier). You wouldn't want to be caught in the rain with them either.

I have no problem just riding around on them around town and for a trip to the track, but I wouldn't want to go on extended trips with them. For you I would recommend getting a second pair of rims at 15x8 to put the sticky tires on. You can put these tires on before you leave to go to the track and don't need to bring a jack and extra tires.

You should have no problem finding a cheap pair of rims from someone. They don't have to be pretty just for the track. I just think you will be disappointed with the Nittos or other drag radial compared to a real slick or street slick if you are looking at drag strip performance. Hoosier Quick Time Pro's would be an alternative. You could probably do everything for around $400 or so. $350 for tires from Summit, $50 for used rims on here. You may say $50 on the tires with drag radials and $50 on the rims, but to save a $100 it isn't worth it.

Took some pics of the ET Streets for you and also had some previous pics of the Nittos. The Nittos are 275/60's and the ET Streets are 28x11.5.

pics here

Thought this may help others looking at the differences in these tires also.

That can't be the same car I sold you!

She's looking good:D Glad she went to a good home:cool:
