octane booster

hi
i was thinking about mixing toluene with my gas
to add octane i am wondering if anybody else has
used it&what kind of results did you will it harm
anything.

Try and lean twards real gas not using paint thinners. I've tryed them all, and real gas is the best i've found.

Xylene and Touene dont mix well with the gas in your tank causing knock at times.

I have run xylene and 93 oct pump gas for quite some time with 0 problems. I will admit that I have never tried the equiv of straight gas that was made mixed at the same octane I run. Before I started doing it I read as much as I could. Don't ask me to quiote specifics, it has been a couple of years, but for the most part higher octane gas is made by adding xylene. Your milage and local brand's formula will vary. There is a lot of good info and links over in the tech/fuel section at gnttype.org.

If it is worth anything I run a mixed 97 octane using quality 93 oct. pump + xylene and a little trans fluid.

I would say to save your time and just get an alky kit. I experimented with Xylene twice and twice my O2 sensor died within a day. Maybe coincidence, but it did happen.

Just curious, what kind of mix did you run? I have been running it for like 2 or 3 years with zippo problems. I did loose a O2 right after I got the car but it was running on leaded race gas. I replaced it with a Bosch (Here is my hand, slap it) which I soon replaced with a Delco. Still in the car.

My mix is not that heavy. I would have to look at my cheet shtt but I think it is like 5 gal pump to .75 gal of xylene. Don't hold me to that, that is why I wrote it down and marked the containers I use to mix

Hey you guys that are running xylene, How much trans fluid or other lube are you adding? I was going to run a small mix like 5 gallons of pump gas and 1 gal of xylene.

I usually just drop a couple ounces of Marvels Mystery Oil in when I mix it up.

I never mix in the tank, always in cans, and I'll echo statements made above that real high-octane gas works MUCH better.
