Okay, been chasing one of those annoying miss/sputter/surge @ higher rpms/boost type of deals. Coilpack tested out okay as far as resistance (it is a Accel coilpack). Put the Casper's Ignition simulator on it and could not see any apparent problem as far as dissapearing spark, etc. So Ive just been chasing the problem around elsewhere and have now come back around to the coil/module
Yesterday I just went ahead and swapped my coil for an extra one (not an Accel coil) that I had sitting as a backup. It also tested fine resistance wise. Well, car seemed to be running okay but after hitting it up a few times I quickly saw that the problem was still there plus now occasional backfiring. Went ahead and put the Casper's tester on this coil/mod. This time I clearly saw a miss (dissapearing spark) from time to time from the #2/5 terminals. So then I switched the green/black (2/5 coil) wire with the yellow/black (1/4 coil) wire and retested. Now the miss moved to the 1/4 coil. This tells me that the module (grn/blk, 2/5) is faulty, right? I put the Accel coil back on and tested. Spark did not seem to breaking up. Now with the Accel coil the miss problem is there when actually driving (just without all the backfiring). What Im thinking is that the Accel coil is that much more powerful that the problem doesnt stand out as bad as with the regular type coilpack. This is why I thought that all was good with the coil/module when originally testing it a week or so ago with the simulator.
Anyone have any advice. Am I on track here? If so, what the heck should I do about a module. I bought this one new from the dealer with the thought that it should definately last for many more years than it has. I think I spent $180~ for it at wholesale
