Ok, if you read my other post about the fuel pressure I got that fixed up yesterday. I only jumped the pump to read pressure. Didn't start the car cause I was waiting for my permatex to dry on the t-stat housing. So this morning I go out and start it. I got all the codes and see all kinds of smoke everywhere. I shut off the car (only ran for like 20 seconds...stalling out, hard to start, etc). And in one of my exhaust leaks I see oil. I look and find another exhaust leak and more oil. (I have plenty as I just threw on a bunch of stuff ;) ) So I think...my brand new turbo leaking already after 20 seconds of running??? I pull off the turbo and there is some oil on the intake side and a LOT in the exhaust housing. Up pipe/down pipe loaded too  Could this cause my car to have all these codes? If you don't remember them they are: 55 54 53 52 44 43 24 23 22 21 13 12. Symptoms are hard starting, rough idle, stalling if I take my foot off the gas etc. Please let me know if this is my problem. Thanks.

Did you recently change the computer chip? Because it is possible that the chip is not seated properly. Ohterwise, your ecm may have problems. As for the oil in the up and dp, there is a break-in period for the turbo and it will probably have to run for a little more than 20 seconds

didn't know about the break in period  And I did install a new chip! I checked installation and did it twice. Maybe the ecm took a crap on me :(

Are you using some type of scantool to monitor data? If so, what does the data stream look like with the key on engine off? Is there any type of communication at all? The trouble shooting flow chart has a diagnostic circuit check, and if you have access to it, you should start with that flow chart. When you rechecked the chip installation, were there any bent pins?

Ok, I'm reading this with an old otc 85 monitor. Just for the heck of it I put on an extra maf and no difference. It's saying the SES codes with key on and engine off. My turbo is also def dead. If you could see the smoke coming from the exhaust you would think I was on fire  I ran the car for like 5 min once and did it again for same time and it's not getting better. I got it from john's performance and he said to send it back and they'll fix it for me. This is my first time dealing with them and let me tell you that they have excellent customer service! So, I guess my turbo seals are bad, and what could be causing the other problems? A bad chip? I was gonna swap the one I had before in and check it but that's made for stock injectors and now I have blue tops so it would still probably run like crap ;)

I'm sure the vendor will take care of your turbo issue. But again I ask, with the key on engine off is there any ECM data from the data stream, other than code. In other words, can you see the TPS readings or CTS readings etc and what are they? I suspect that if the data is not right or there isn't any data at all, then the chip may be the problem (or is not installed right).

Ok here's the deal. I put in my old hypertech chip (it's even for stock injectors!) and it ran fine for a couple min. I did checked the codes with the scan tool and all that came up was 51 and 34. NO LIGHT CAME ON. After that the SES came on and was getting codes: 51 and 34 but also got 45. So I figure the 45 is cause of the chip not being for blue tops. OK then I put back in the new one and got all the codes I posted in my first post  It also started smoking again. Then I realized the new chip must be bad since I repeated the process like 3 times after. Every time I put in the pte chip I get an imediate SES and all those codes. When I put the hypertech in I get the ones I just listed. And the "oil" from the turbo...Well I think it's actually gas. I tried to smell it the first time I checked but I have a serious cold and can't smell anything! But I don't get why the smoke is white. My oil is still looking good and it only smokes like that when the pte chip is in.

Oh, I forgot, have you tried clearing the codes to see if they come back? Sorry.

How do you clean the codes? I had the batt disconnected for a while but they were still there. I had another idea. Can a chip for an intercooled car physically fit my ecm? I was thinking that maybe they burned me an 86/87 chip? Just a thought.

If the battery was disconnected prior to the chip installation and then connected prior to starting the engine, then the codes would clear. It must be disconnected or the ecm fuse must be removed each time (to clear codes). I suspect that a PROM for an 86/87 ECM will fit in the ecm and may produce the codes you're seeing. The stock injector prom should work with the blue tops long enough to find out your problems. But if you were to compare serial data with the stock chip and with the new chip, there would probably be differences ( possibly in the way some of the sensors would respond). Your OTC scanner should provide a chip ID. Give this info to the company that made the chip and see what they say about that chip.

Problem found!

I called PTE and talked to joe lubrant and he told me that they thought I converted my car to 86/87! They burned the chip for one of those. They are sending me another one burned for my ecm and hopefully things all work out. Thanks for the help!
