I have 166k on the clock. I have no immediate plans to do more mods than my sig. Maybe a little Xylene or alchy and 20 Lbs or so boost on occasion. Daily driver.

I have a little noise on startup and seems to go away after warmup. It isn't a tap or knock, just seems like excessive noise IMO, but not alarming, just noticable by me.

I have been running 20w-50 since I bought it 12k miles ago. Does anyone use or suggest any of those oil additives? I have never used one before and have no clue if they are really useful, especially in TR's. I have no plans to rebuild until I "need" to and would like to prolong that time because of budget.

TIA,
Scott

IMO save your money. I would just keep changing the oil & filter every 2,000 to 2500.
I have over 250K on one of my engines. The rings are worn and the compression is down to 100-110#, the rear seal leaks and leaks/uses a qt every 700-800 miles but still run very smooth. This is my everyday driver.

Just my two cents.

Lucas Products

You know, I'm as big a skeptic about various "mouse-milk"
products found on the "Additives" aisle in most auto parts stores
as anyone...and have bought very few.

But over the last year, I'm constantly hearing more & more positives about several Lucas products from various professionals...mechanics, tune-up shops, Nascar shops, diesel shops, etc. They've put most of their advertising/sponsorship in NHRA events, thus far.

From personal experience, I can tell you I add a 1/2 pint of the Lucas Oil Stabilizer to each oil change, and that millisecond "tick-tick-tick" at start-up is gone.

Their entire line of products at the best prices are usually in the mega-truckstops along most Interstate highways.

HTH :)

I've always felt the same, NO OIL ADDITIVES...BUT, I've got a high mileage engine that I'm going to be going through soon and decided to try some for the hell of it.

Grabbed some of the Lucas oil stuff and WOW...I'd say it's great stuff. Less valve train noise, slower seepage...just better.

Tried some of their power steering stuff too...pump was moaning and had some seepage as well....put the Lucas power steering fluid in, moan is gone and the seepage as slowed to being almost non-existant.

I like it.

oil

I have been told by all the major oil companies that 20w50 oil is not good for a normal car engine. They recommend 10w30.Bruce

Lucas oil stabilizer all the way. 4 quarts oil 1 quart lucas. Verry good for the turbo bearings. I also use the new K&N performance gold oil filter Part # HP-2001. Same as A/C PF 52. I go all out to keep my new motor well pampered in the oiling. Only 5,000 miles on it.

I do not favor using additives, but I have heard some lots of good things about the Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Never a bad word on it. I have never used it myself. It is the only one that I would try, however.

my friends dad used race cars and swears by that Lucas stuff. i might try it next time. the concept seems liek it would be good for our cars.
