Seeing oil at my plate (and in the lines, vac. block, etc)!! Not a ton, but enough to make the tb a little sticky and "coat" the entire housing.

I did a search and went through a ton of good post concerning pcv function, but I haven't found anything pertaining to whether or not the ATR pcv replacement is worth it....more important, is it causing a problem that I'm unaware of (besides letting oil by)?

Street driven (<1000 miles a year) and it is set to run 22-24 pounds of boost.....which is why I upgraded years ago to what I was told is the "better" alternative to a factory pcv valve.

Now, I'm starting to think that either this valve needs periodic rebuilding or something else needs to be done.

How are you guys setting this up??? No pcv doesn't seem like a good alternative (according to search)....so what do I do now? I don't see as many posts anymore concerning problems with pcv, so it must mean there is a good fix.....is there???

....gets me excited to think that I could be having knock from this...which means I might be able to squeeze more out of this baby :D

PCV check valves will not keep oil from getting into your intake; They keep boost from getting into the crankcase, which is what the PCV should be doing anyway.

Turbo is brand new....GN1 valve covers w/ K&N vents.

Ok...if I can't stop the oil from being picked up (outside of taking everthing apart and changing things around under the manifold).....what is a good method of stopping the oil from getting to the tb??

Basically, what is a "safe" and tested method?

Thanks,

mounted on the a/c heat shield, right above the ps valve cover. Fits nicely and is not in the way, the unit is fairly small, little bigger than a soda can. IMO, its been the best fix so far for the pcv blues.

First of all, you need to drive your car more. Since you have no seat time, can there really be any problems?

OK, I suggest you install methanol injection. That'll clean out any oil that's accumulated in the wrong places.

you can also run a top engine cleaner through to clean the system, but a catch can will help stop contamination in the future.

That's a good point, my new alky system is probably keeping things clean in the intake system.
I can see aluminum again on my pistons, the alky is slowly eating away at the 98000 miles worth of carbon buildup in my engine.

I like the catch can....thanks for the link....I'll keep that in mind while I have the down time.

As for the "EtOH", I don't run anything but 100 octane from mobil....and I was under the impression that the alky isn't anything more than 100 or right around there...so it doesn't seem like I'd gain anything...except the "cleaning" aspect.

...and yes, I know I need to drive it more :) I'm looking for a way to "keep it new" after the rebuild.

Thanks

Can anyone help me out on the alky question?

I'm still not sure what to do with the pcv either.

Thanks,

That's awesome, catch can thingy...:) I may have to install them on both my TR's.

Bahh....I'm going with the catch can.

Thanks for the replies everyone...I appreciate it.

Hopefully this takes care of the problem.

TKGN1,

Any pics of it installed? I am planning to install mine in the same place and was wondering what it will look like. Also, did you use any teflon tape on the fitting? Thanks.

The added octane from alky is only 1/5th of the benefits.
The cooling of the intake charge and having no carbon deposits in the combustion chambers allows you to run higher boost without detonation and paying for race fuel all of the time.

hmmmm...then it will be a wise investment...but for right now I don't drive the thing enough :( The price of the kit versus the difference in fuel right now isn't balanced enough....but "eventually" the alky would be a better deal...but again, I just don't drive it enough yet.

Thanks for the info,

Sorry, I don't have any pics of the kit installed on my car. I'll try to get some shots and get them posted.

I used tape just to help reduce chances of vacuum leaks, npt fittings don't always seal up completely on thier own.

I can't drive mine enough. As long as the weather permits I am driving it and it is not down for some reason.
