I have used SYN type oil for the past 3 years in my GN.

It has been sitting 6 months.

Would you fire it up with current oil which has 1500 mile on it?
let it warm up & then change to fresh oil
or
Would you drain the current oil prior to firing it up & put fresh oil in?

Mine sat for a long time in the body shop, but I use dino oil. I changed the oil prior to start up then just fired it right up.

Another just drain then fire up.

Seems to me that if the car has been sitting for a day and especially if it was hot when it was turned off the day before, then all the oil that could drain has drained into the pan.

Yeah, the hot oil will drain from the pan faster, but if one gives it plenty of time, I usually plan other service activity during the drain time, then most has been dealt with.

Curiously waiting other opinions:cool:

Isn't the advantage of draining the oil hot other than its viscosity is lower, that it carrys out more of the crud and contaminents that are in the oil motor?

What does the oil look like? Real dark and contaminated or does it look ok?

My oil looks pretty fresh.. with 1,500 miles I bet it is still good.

I still don't know which way to go.

I say just do it, so you can get back to enjoying the car. I don't think 6 months is a long time, I would just start it up untill it gets hot then drain the oil.

If you don't want to do that, then just drain it and refill, and enjoy the car.

1,500 miles isn't alot of miles on a synthetic oil. If the car had been sitting for 6 years I then I think this would accually be an issue. 6 months is just a little bit longer than a normal winter storage.

oil change

let me say this. if syn oil is made to stand up two 1500. 2000 what will sitting for six months hurt? i have done this for 3 years now no problems. i let my car sit all winter .with maybee 2 start ups;. until spring .so far so good. frank.

That is exactly what I think. Just get the car running so you can enjoy it again. It is never fun just looking at it in the garage.:)

Thanks Guys, I am gonna fire it up & go for ride.. I can save the oil change after I put some miles on it.. AT $5- a quart why waste $$

oil

I save volumes of cash by changing dino oil every 2,000 miles. Drain it in the spring before I fire it up and put in fresh Valvoline 10W30. My opinion synthetic is a waste of money.;)

Synthetic is not a waste of money unless you are the type that does the 2 min. cool down all of the time. I am on the lazy side and shut the car off as soon as I get to where I am going. If you do this on dino oil you are not doing your turbo and oil return lines any good. Dino oil will coke the return line from the turbo on hot shut down, synthetics will not. After 100,000 miles you could eat off the inside of my return line. I have seen others that were in pretty bad shape.
