I have been looking into purchasing one of those oil leak detection kits to find the source of my many puddles- there is one on JC Whitney for $99.99. My personal preference would be to just purchase a UV light and a few "refills" of the dye for engine oil. Does anyone know of a good supplier for this item ?

On a turbo regal oil leak most common areas

1. Rear main seal (stock seal is a rope design)
2. valve cover gaskets(get the felpro rubber)
3. timing cover/front main seal
4. rear of intake manifold

Yeah, I changed the driver's side valve cover gasket for a felpro, which so far has worked very well. I checked the torque on the oil pan bolts, to get to about 8-10 lb ft, the gasket looks o.k. but once oil gets on both sides they're usually toast.

I basically want the dye kit so I can tell if I'm looking at the intake or the rear main or both- if the rear main is leaking, I might as well pull the motor and do the fix correctly- its a real PITA to change it on the car, and pulling the motor offers so many oppurtunities to upgrade, clean, and detail other items.

i use one of those dye kits at the shop....they are priceless sometimes!!!! The rear main isn't that hard to do in the car. Just remember to drive the pins in straight and put a little rtv on the cap's sides etc. To get the old seal out, push it w/ a small screwdriver as you rotate the engine. It should walk itself right out. Do the same on the install....it helps to soak the seal in a little engine oil first so it's nice n slippery.

good luck
