Are they all created eqaul? I am considering this as a way to improve my low oil press at idle (even though the pump cover is brand new).
Is there only one brand? Are they all the same? I see one in an old KB cat that says you have to grind a small slot on the cover.
Lemme know, thanks

Give T/A Performance a call...massaging front covers and installing booster plates is one of their specialties...

I believe they are all that way. The KB version of the plate is aluminum (like the cover and housing) while most others are steel. Jim Ruggles came up with this plate way back before there were SFI/Turbos.

When installing one of these booster plates, what is the small groove for that has to be done on the pump cover? Is this something that can be done by hand?
I see the KB booster kit is $42.00, wow, what is so special about their's compared to TA's or others?

Looking for ways to increase oil pressure.

My Kenne-Bell unit has been on the car for 125K miles now.

Still 18-20 psi. oil hot in the summer at idle. :)

Hope that aluminum plate don't wear out.

I will look into TA Perf. for the next one and check out what they have.

Yes you need to machine or dremel if you are good a slot or pocket in the housing.

Dad's a machinist and I got a readable copy of the Kenne-Bell directions with my kit. I was lucky. :D

So what is the difference between TA's & KB's (besides one being alum and other steel)?
If the KB one is worth 42.00 because it has some other features then I will go that route. Need more oil pressure!!!
Thanks for your input.

Anyone else have any input on this one? I talked to TA yesterday and the guy on the phone didn't have that much tech advice to offer.

Paul - did the TA guy say that you had to cut the slot in the oil pump housing with their version?

The slot is real easy to do if you have a dremel tool.

The Ruggles/KB style plate redirects the oil coming from the pressure relief (the piston/spring assembly).

Stock setup, if I remember correctly, the oil from the pan comes into the low pressure side of the gears from one side, while the oil from the presssure relief comes in from the other side. Fresh stuff from the cover end of the gears and recycled stuff from the oil pump cover end of the gears I think? Maybe not, it's been a while since I looked at it.

Anyway, the Ruggles/KB plate blocks the pressure relief oil's path to the gears, and sends it into the pan-to-pump suction passage instead, so that all the oil to the pump enters from the same spot. Exactly why this is better I've never understood, but Ruggles said it keeps a "pressure head" from building up on the low pressure side of the gears.

If this sounds good to you, you need a plate that requires you to modify the oil pump cover. I don't know which kind TA sells. The plates that you can get at AutoZone, etc... don't require this modification, they don't redirect anything, they just provide a new wear surface.

Im getting ready to install one of these plates on my car. It's a old aluminum plate that I got from a freind. The surface is a little rough so im going to mill it to get a good flat & fresh surface. My idle oil pressure is 9-10 lbs hot. I would like to get it to 15-20.
Im running Mobil 1 10w 30 right now. I think im going to switch to 15-50 Mobil1. Hopefully with the both of these mods I will get the oil pressure where I want it.

When in stalling these do you have to use longer bolts?? Do you have to use 2 gaskets??

Thanks in advance

Yes, longer bolts and two gaskets (one on each side of plate).

I am wondering who else sells a gaskit kit of varying thicknesses? I would like to have one on hand. How about Melling or Fel-pro or is it just TA?
