i have a seepage of oil and it looks like it is seeping on the drivers head gasket where it seal to the block. along the edge of the head by the bottom studs.

the engine was square decked, heads were shaved flat, has head studs, and fel pro graphite gaskets(9001?).

it runs great but is seeping oil that eventually drips after a while of driving.

anybody ever had this happen and what was the cause?
the gaskets were installed correctly.

See if it's from the intake at the head and following the gasket to the lowest spot then dripping.

I have what appears to me to be the same problem you have described. My head gaskets are Cometics. They were installed properly with new Champion heads. I have looked very closely for oil leaks at the intake and have decided the seepage must be coming through the head gaskets.

Seems to be a common problem. I have it the same issue on a motor I just built. I am using the copper titan gaskets and I get the same seepage from the drivers side rear corner. I have re-torqued to no avail, still an issue.

I am thinking it has to be coming from somewhere else, does it even make sense for oil to seep from that spot? I would think possible coolant but not oil.

EVERYTHING ABOVE THE heads is dry, valve covers, intake, ect...

kinda wierd but i think the oil is "wicking" up thru the head studs and then out.
i used sealer on them into the block. no coolant leaking.

damn these engines, if it aint one thing it's another.

Head studs go into water jacket. Try dye and UV light?

Dye in the oil?

You guys are going CSI on me, can you explain a little further what you mean by dye and UV light?

Most all the auto parts store's have oil leak detection kits that are cheep.Pour in the dye take a little ride and check it with the light that comes with the kit.

I am NOT "GOD" but I do have the answer.

And I did not stay at a HOLIDAY INN last night either. This has happen to me before and the back of the engine, side, front, top, etc. was dry as a bone but I had oil dripping off the head gasket that sticks out from the block and the engine was just installed, you could lick off this motor.

Trust Me, the leak is located at the point where the intake, head and top rail of the engine all meet and the oil is running along the head gasket between the block & head, than around and drips off of the head gasket onto the starter, etc. if leaking on that side of the engine, mine was on both sides of the rear

The bottom line was I did not put enough sealer where everything comes together (but I was sure I did), so when I redid it I ran a small bead starting slightly on the underside of the head inside the motor. This one made me pull my hair out because I could not find it and even though I know it could not be, I thought the leak "MUST" be coming throught the head gasket.

You guys can all thank me later when you find out.

PS: You can't beat using "The Right Stuff" for sealant.
