ok now i've heard this twice, said a GN or TR would be the only american car a real asian would drive what gives with that. how many people of asian decent actually drive TR's or GN's?

I know a couple of Asian Americans with TR's, maybe it's American Asians to be in the proper perspective.

I doubt too many immigrants of any persuasion/ethnicity coming here to realize a dream would know much about the cars.

Hrmm what has the least amount of torque designed for someone no taller than 5'5 with 4 cylinders thats american?........

I know of a few.

Actually a local guy here in San Diego, who I believe is half Chinese, has one of the fastest turbo Buicks on this site.

Filipino here...

My father and I have one each.
I also know of a few other TR owners that are of Asian descent.

guess it's true somewhat

the guy i'm talking about works at a local conveince store and has a integra with a turbo. says runs 7's in the 1/8th and wanted to run me awhile back. today i was at another store which the guy knows the other guy and commented on my car. then started in on how it looked and stuff, then said only an asian would drive a TR, or the only american car a real one would drive. was awkward as i also thought what would they know about a 20 yr old american car that was kicking a55 when they were in the womb, or better yet in their daddy still as the fastest swimmer.

I use to own a GN, actually at different times Ive had 3 different GN's, a Typhoon, a TTA, and now a Syclone. I also have a honda civic for a DD, but I feel like a fa****g when I drive it-no offense to anyone. I once had an asian guy say to me "Your GN is the only american car I would drive". He was your typical ricer asian with a turbocharged Nissan 240. Im guessing they are saying this because of the Turbo V6 is a lot like their holy grail the Nissan Skyline. I use to get a lot of people stare at me when driving my GN. They have that look in their face like they have never seen this before-an asian driving a muscle car. Most people think it is weird when they hear I am into American muscle cars. One of my asian friends called my GN a hooptie or lowrider-stupid azz. I actually miss my GN, and want to get another one some time.

Well, Buick is the best selling car in China...apparently they are very high class over there:D

heard about japan

from what i understand american cars are real big in asia, it's a big deal to have one. i had alot of choices when i was looking for cars and my bro in law told me that you'll know when you found the car for you when you sit in it, drive it and see it and it'll be like love at 1st sight. i saw a few vettes, several mustangs, 1 wrx, alot of camaro's and some other nice real quick cars. but when my car pulled into the shop when i was looking i knew it in a nano second that i wanted that car. So maybe it's true about what my bro in law said. regardless i have no regrets even after i jacked up a piston.

You guys crack me up:D. This past year, Geoff and I were commenting about whether the members of the board realized that two of the administrators are Asian. Believe you me, this thread doesn't offend either of us, so please keep it going. IMHO, if someone thinks it's offensive, I'll tell em to go pound sand.

Thanks for the smiles this morning. I've got to get going and see my nephew in his fisrt martial arts tournament and then go to marial arts class, cuz that is what we Asians do when we're not driving our GN:D:D:D.

funny

didn't know about the asian thing, and glad i didn't upset. regardless we on this board have something in common, we love our buicks.at nice bridge of the gap when you consider that most people think only mullet wearing rednecks and serious buick lovers that are white is just profiling. i'm hispanic and as you know us hispanics love regals, i'm just one that has to have some turbo on him to go please. good luck to your relative and i'm sure you guys kick ass in the ring as well as on the pavement.

one last thing, thanks for the board without it i would probably be visiting the parts store alot more often.

Asian? I thought Geoff was Oriental???

...then go to martial arts class, cuz that is what we Asians do when we're not driving our GN:D:D:D.
Come out of the womb knowing that stuff, Confucius say.

do you have secret hiding places in your car for your swords and nunchucks and what not so you are always ready to backflip into action when you drive thru the wrong part of Chinatown?

I am asian (Filipino) and yes I do own a TR. This is my second one. Also have a 2000 Regal GS. Been into TR's since I was 13. Yes I have had people stereo type me to be driving an import or something. Last dude that said that to me back in 04 got there STI a** handed to him. It's priceless when you see the other persons face when I roll down the window (tinted)after they give me a thumbs up after handing there a** to them. I guess they assume I am some other race or something. I also had a Head and Cam supercharged Lincoln LSC at one point in my life. =)

What's with all these Filipinos coming out of hiding....I thought I was the only one here.:D

But seriously, I grew up around American cars. My dad and brother always bought GM. I have never owned an import...well except the time I was stationed in japan, I had a Honda. I have always been into muscle cars, but love fast cars regardless of make. I just prefer to own American muscle. Yeah I've gotten weird stares form other Asian drivers, especially out here in So Cal. Like Asians are only supposed to drive Asian cars.

What's cool is my two kids have been influenced by me. My 13 year old son wants an old muscle car when he starts driving. He tells me his Asian pals all want "riced out Hondas". LOL, those were his exact words. And guess what my 12 year old daughter wants...yup, a blue Turbo T!

Well, not sure if Im adding to the sterotype or busting it, but Im Thai and have had my GN since 1990. My friend at work has had two Turbo T's and is Thai as well.

Well when you say Asian that is a broad term. My nationality is Indian ( as in India) and that would fall in the category of being Asian. If that is the case, especially here in the Midwest, there are quite a few of us with Turbo Buicks including my self, 2GNS4ME, DR BOOST, GN JAY,REAPER6,TURBODRIVEN, TURBO3.8V6,FBSIDEOILER 427,FOOST and so on here on TB. Also there are quite a few that is not on the board including my brother and others.

wow

didn't know the post would bring this type of reaction, as i stated cars are universal in their appeal towards people regardless of race. it just threw me off when i was told that GN's were the only american car that an asian would drive. pretty cool though to see how many people from differant cultures love TR's and GN. seems like we're not so different when you see the obsession or what ever you may call it between us. so even though we aren't of the same race, we're brothers of another kind. Nice to know hope no one takes offense to anyone posting their race, and as i stated i'm hispanic and yea we love our regals, i just prefer my car to be one with a GN tag on it.

I think it’s awesome. You are right; it is the brother hood that matters when it comes to these cars. You should see my house on Saturdays. All of my TR buddies would come and just to hang out or bring their cars to work on. It’s awesome, Whites, African Americans, Indians, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Filipinos and so on. We are a special bread of people with the same mentality. We have great love and passion for these cars. I remember one time when we all went to eat together at a restaurant; they asked us if we are some sort of a Culture club with all different nationalities.
