Well, here at the school shop class, we are trying to finish-up before Christmas break. The students wanted to "clean-up" the underside rear of the car as seen from behind. I said "whatever as long as it is not black AND looks STOCK" . They have dropped the tank(for the um-teen time...DON'T ask...I think they just like to smell the gas fumes:confused: ), sanded all and now ready to paint. What color would be close to the " new tank look". Due to the time frame ordering paint from Eastwood or some co. like that is not a option. We will need to go to a parts store to get the paint.

O'yea by the way, after Thanksgiving they cleaned, sanded and undercoated the underside.....one of them said(when I ask WHY:rolleyes: ) Well sir, it looked like it needed doing. That was when he handed me a bill of materials for there planned little improvement!!!!!
Guys, with my students, a little idle time on their part, usally end-up costing me money:eek: . But hey, at least if they are under the car or busy working on something---they are not GETTING into TROUBLE!!!!:D
THANKS to ALL and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

There is a "cast coat" that is a dull cast iron finish and there is also a "steel" finish that is put out by plasti-kote. If you want something a little brighter they also put out an "aluminum" that looks pretty good.

Is the "look" of the stock tanks SHINNY or more a RAW metal look???
thanks for the REPLY

por-15 has a product

Its called metal mask. Expensive but all their products are. Ive used it on my other car. It works great and will give that original look but will last longer that we will.

Thanks for the info on Eastwood Co. If we had the time to get it shipped in, the paint from Eastwood would be 1st choice.
Thanks

Keep CHRIST in Christman !!!!! Merry Christmas

I just pianted mine a Silver epoxy type paint. Can't remember what brand. Looks as close to stock as I could get it.
I remember buying new straps at the time and it really cleaned up the A## end.

THANKS guys for all the Great info.

.....and to all a Merry CHRISTmas!!!!!HO!HO!HO! and a SAFE New Year!!!!

Eastwood has some fine products that are very good for factory-like finishes. But for something different why not have the tank chromed and then have a mural airbrushed on there of a nude girl riding a dragon.

LOL - I do not know where I came up with that except that with all the correct and good answers already posted and the OP's question well answered it seemed time for alternative ideas - some day I will get in trouble for posting my great ideas at 3 AM after a party
