After spending a while perusing the threads found by the "search" feature, I cannot seem to find anywhere that anyone has posted about interior paint results.

I've seen the redone steering wheel but don't know if the paint lasts.

I guess what I want to know is can I paint stuff like the door pulls and the arm rest, the soft part of the dash, etc... w/o having issues of fading, smudging, chipping etc?

I have a new can of Grey from Kirban. Need to know what I can paint and what I can't paint.

If you have pics of interior paint projects please post up.

I havent painted any interior peices YET, but the key is in how it is prepped. Get a red scotch bright pad and scuff the pieces, and then degrease them. The paint should bond well. Do you have to use a primer with the can you got from Kirban?

Good question. I am about to purchase a new dash pad and am going to need to paint it to match my blue interior.

I'm not sure about primer. My questions wa more along the lines of prep for the soft stuff. The scotchbite pads might be too harsh and remove some of the "grain" of the plastic. Don't want to make it worse, only freshen it up.

Dye-job

Hemming's Muscle Machine just did an article in April on interior dye-jobs using a Camaro interior with good results.

TURBO39151...
I have the article and would be glad to mail it to you if you are interested. Not sure how long it will take to get to "another world" though.
I have painted every interior piece on my GN. Used SEM Paint Prep and SEM Paint. I bought it from Eastwoods and is the proper color for the GN interiors. Seems to be holding up fine. The secret like any paint job is all in the prep. PM me if you want the article.

Yes, I'd like to see this article. I just read a small 1 page article in another Hemmings mag at the grocery store. Not a whole lot of info...

Do you have pics of your masterpiece? I'd really like to see how it all turned out and how it's all wearing.

I would not sand interior parts. It would remove the texture.

Plastic is pretty easy, clean it well and paint using light mist coats. SEM has a compatible cleaner.

Vinyl is a little more difficult. SEM has a product called sand free that soften's the vinyl so the color coat can get a tooth. The process for vinyl is clean, sand free and color coat.

In all cases I would recommend going to your existing auto paint store and having it matched.

Last year I did an interior resto. Painted every plastic and metal grey piece in the interior. came out like factory mint. I used the paint from Kirban's which I think is the best available. Perfect color match and bonded perfect. For prep I used dish soap and a green scotch brite pad and lightly scuffed the surfaces. No primer needed. It was winter when I was doing the resto, so I warmed up the paint can and interior pieces with a heat gun before painting. This helped to get a very smooth coat. Did 3-4 light coats. No runs. Ended up using 4-5 cans of grey. I let the pieces dry for at least a week before installing. Very happy with the results

paint

I wipe lacquer thinner over plastic pieces before painting. I have great results.I clean pieces with glass cleaner and use a lint free cloth with lacquer thinner. I only make one pass as the lacquer thinner will start to dissolve the plastic. The paint sticks well just like it was from factory. Test kirbans paint before using it, I had a bad can of it
