pcv ident

Hi all. A few questions.
The person I bought my GN from replaced the pcv with a "high performance one" (whatever that means). It is brass and can be seen here- pcv pic . Does anyone see anything wrong with the picture? I thought the pcv was bigger than that.

And how do I know if my pcv is working?

Thats an in line check valve, sold by many vendors. Opinions will vary on this, but my car runs better without it and with an AC delco pcv. Do a search to read past info on this.
