I just bought the book from Ebay last week. It's gonna be a life saver when I go to assemble my dismantled 87 drivetrain I got from Bweavy (save him some calls from me too, lol). I know there are always a lot of questions about converting N/A's and Hot-Airs to the I/C setup and this book has excellent photo's and the Buick illustrations you need. It also has bolt sizes and torque specs, which was another area I needed help in.

I just won one on ebay the other day too. Just waiting for it it come in the mail. Kirban sells the book too. I figures it would help out when i put my engine back together this spring

I needed it bad, even though I had an 86 for years, I sold it 3 years ago so my memory was sketchy at best. Brian has all the bolts labeled for me, but it's a long block and a lot of parts in boxes, so I spent quite a while looking at it and scratching my head. Once I get all the accessories back from the powder coater it's go time.

OPINIONS WANTED:
As of now, I am going with a red block and a light silver gloss on the plenum, valve covers, brackets, alt, headers, etc..A little oldskool Buick throw back if you will.

But I have been seriously thinking about doing everything in a very machined satin type of silver for a monochromatic look. Very little wouldn't be the same color. Kind of like an Exile motorcycle look (for lack of a better example.)

Would that be the same Peter Hoffman that is on this board (phoff)?

Back in the day, I had a 72 Skylark and when I rebuilt the 350 in it I painted it red because that was the factory color. All the chevy guys laughed at it.......well until I stomped their a** in the street races. Anyway, I wouldn't paint a GN motor red, but that's just my opinion.

It's an 84 converted to an 87 drivetrain with GNX fender flares and louvers, no chrome, all dark garnet red, and ZR1 wheels, we can throw keeping it original out the window, LOL.

Now to go machine look, or throwback? Either way there will be no chrome on it.

Is he a member? That's cool.

Yeah, he left me some good feedback. I haven't seen his book for sale when I check newly listed so maybe he hasn't hit up Ebay for a while, dunno.

I dunno i just bought something else from him though he sells like the underhood decals and gnx plates too on there i have seen a few books since i bought mine one even went for like 30 bucks? kinda dumb in imo cuz he will list a new one right after taht one sells plus you can buy it from kirbans but shipping is like 6 bucks on the book. theres not as much in the book as i hoped for but i think it will be useful when putting my engine back together after having it apart for a few months

I bought my engine in bags and boxes from Bweavy, so I needed it bad. It had been years since I owned my 86 and my memory was shaky but once I got to wrenching it all started coming back to me.

Whoever designed our fuel rail mounting system is a sadist. :D

You can't really see much of the block once you have it installe din the car and everything bolted to it. I paint mine black to keep it simple bu tI have a friend who painted his red. Either option will eventually get dirty and I donno about you but I wouldn't want to keep cleaning my block just so I can see some paint. If you don't drive it often, or not at all in bad conditions then I'd say go with red as you'll see it a lot better(but still not much) than machined silver.

Yeah, but in the realm of thing, painting the block red is one of the quicker easier tasks I face. :D I tend to clean my engine every 2 weeks or so, and the one I am building won't get driven too much, but plenty enough.
