Looks great, But i have never had luck with those exh gaskets

really? they were just the ones that came with the gasket set, what do you recomment since it would be very easy to change them now before i put the motor in.

if your headers are perfectly flat(or i have them sanded) then i use just ultra copper RTV around the ports.
If there not perfectly flat get yourself a set of copper ex manifold gaskets.

man, you better not have spent all that money and only have a 49 on there.....you need to go with a 70bb and girdle that thing!!!

thats why there is only a ta-49 on there, thats all i can afford right now, mahbe in the future ill get something a little bigger, i still have to drive the thing everyday.

I understand.....$$ is a pain in he a$$. Great looking motor though.

they are both not what the grill says, its my 87 gn and my 72 skylark '350' in the background. the gnx emblems and vents were on the gn when i bought it, as well as a repo gnx dash. the 'lark i transplanted a bbb/th400 into then found a great deal locally on a gs hood that had the factory tach on it

Looks good.

Add me to the list of people who learned who learned the hard way, that copper gaskets are the way to go.

Sounds like you got yourself a very healthy daily driver coming together.

thx, other mods will be 009's, turbo tweak chip, ram chargers dual fans, 3' single shot exhaust, tubular lca, thdp, t-type wheels (painted black), hid headlight conversion, maybe underdrive crank pulley, as well as some more minor stuff.
funny thing, my daily driver is going to be faster then my skylark, oh well, cant afford gas on that thing anyway.

Wew she sho is pretty, and I learned something. I need the copper gaskets, I should have known better.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of goodies you got in her?

its got .030 over forged slugs, stock rods, stock crank turned .010, arp rod bolts, billet center two mains, arp main studs
postons gn107 cam & high rev lifters, stock pushrods, spring-lock-and retainers from comp cams, slightly bigger valves, 3-angle valve job, arp head studs. i spent a little bit of money but i could have done a lot more,
nice pics of your by the way, looks killer!
yea i learned something too, i ordered my copper gaskets from postons last night, 48.59 shipped. nothing is cheap anymore!

and just in case anyone was wondering about the intake, plenum, and valve covers, i told them not to chemically srtip them, well they did and they all turned white!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so i had to have them paint them all so that they would be close to what they were supposed to look like

Are you building for drag purpose or straight street duty. I may have gone over board for what my intended purpose is, straight street terror.

No you did fine in choices. I ran almost the same motor for 5 years. Track after 4. I think as you become more comfortable. I bet you will try and see what she does. Also I would put braces in back and front.

Jeez nice motor.........

Which TR vendor can I get my gasket from?

my plans are for the motor to be mostly street and some a trip to the strip every now and then, i ordered the copper header gaskers from postonbuick.com, heres the link

http://www.postonbuick.com/eshop/10Browse.asp

and as far as the braces go, ive got the behind the seat set, the underhood set and the three braces to triangulate under the front of the engine compartment. dont want any cracks to form.
