porting header/ welding flange

What filler rod do you use and how durable is the weld?
How much can you port headers?

I use a ER309L Tig Wire. It is a good bi-metal rod. Extremely durable. Can't go real far porting stock headers. A set of Felpro 1400 gaskets is about as far as I go. If you go to far you will go right thru the tube and then you get into welding around the outside.

Already went through tube in the middle. Would you use the same tig rod for the outside?

Yes,
Use ER309L. Works good for me.
