Carrier caps should be 45 ft/lbs. Pinion bearing preload should be 15 inch pounds breakway for used bearings, and 25 for new bearings. Carrier bearing preload should be .004 to .005. Most gear manufacturers call for .008 to .012 backlash, but for drag rears, I usually go a bit tighter, .006~.007, and a nice easy break-in with several hot- cold cycles before racing. I would strongly recommend synthetic gear lube.
BTW, if using the original gears, do not change the backlash if you can help it. That would be assuming you checked it before teardown.
