Anyone ever done this? I figure a nice gloss black PC would look nice and be easy to clean, but unsure how it would hold up to the heat and carbon.

Just a thought on this...

Last year, I had all of my intercooler piping powder-coated gloss black. They looked BEAUTIFUL, except that they would get smudged and scratched so easily. If I was working on the car, and I brushed my arm against the pipe - smudge. If I tried to wipe-off the smudge with a rag, I would get hairline scratches. The only way to clean them of was to use car polish. Quite the pain.

I recently had the pipes stripped and re-coated with satin black. The difference is that satin black is a urethane-type coating, where the gloss was a polyester coating. The results have been great! The satin black does not get the scratches and smudges like the gloss did, and everybody that's seen them so far has liked the look.

I can post pics if anybody cares...

PS: I had my pipes done by J.B.'s Powder Coating (a.k.a. John Butler) in Indiana. His work and effort to get my pipes done were both top-notch. Highly recommended.

sure if you woudn't mind could you post the pics i am interested in what they look like. thanks alot

Interesting. I was just thinkin about this yesterday. I have the dual 3" stainless ATR system and am going to polish both tail pipes to look like chrome after I sand them smooth. I wanted to have them clear powdercoated so I didn't have to keep polishing them all the time. Has anyone tried this with clear powdercoat? I wonder if the pipes will discolor with the heat.... hrmmmm....

I just opened my box and saw how big the tailpipe pipes are. I thought they were just tailpipes...not the whole piece that goes over the axle. Might be a hassle to powdercoat me thinks. Any other options? I like either black or chrome.

trbo6gn, here is a link to a page with some pictures. I originally had the Gloss Black (two photos on the bottom) on my heat shield, up-pipe, and MAF pipe. After I bought my FM and cold-air kit, I sent all of the pipes out to be powder-coated in Satin Black (top two photos). I really like the look.

Wow, that satin looks GREAT. Get yourself some new tanks for underhood...$9 each from GMPartsDirect.com...it'd really brighten it up in there.
