My antenna stuck tonight in the almost up position. I can't get it to budge upor down but the motor still runs, I can hear it change directions when I turn the radio on and off though so I think from what I have read that this is repairable.

I read the GNTTYPE pages and then I saw a post from someone who said you don't have to pull out the fender, just undo the bolt holding it to the fender. Does this make sense?

Might want to do a search on this subject. there have been several good discussions on this. If the motor runs, then, yes, it is probably repairable. To get the motor to stop running, you might want to consider disconnecting the wiring harnerss that is geneally buried behind the short rail attached to the shotgun side fender inner fender. There is a coupling that can be disconnected. If the disconnect is not there, it has probably already been pulled out by somebody to disconnect it and it will be where the opening is between the outer and inner fenders going back by the door, just below and to the left of the heater box. Ther part no. for the repair part is 22038195. It is available thru gmpartsdirect. About $ 25 including shipping, generally. I can e-mail you some pics showing where the connector is, if needed.
And yes, i have heard that a good mechainc can unbotton the lower area of the fender and fenderwell and reach it that way. I would not do this myself, though. If the fender wrinkles, you are screwed. My mechanic is going to fix mine that way.

I did unplug the motor the connector was right in view. Believe it or not I could not unplug the antenna coax. Its springy when you push them ends together but I could not separate them. Do I just yank really hard? I didn't want to wreck the coax too.

Dunno. Sorry, can't help out there. My coax is still intact as I still use my antenna. When I get ready to go out in the car, I pull the antenna up about 2 feet, and then push down the skinny part leaving up about a foot of the semi-thick stem. When i cover the car, I reverse the procedure, leaving up just the very tip. I am not too cheap to have it fixed, but I want to put in a cd/fm/am when I have my mechanic fix the antenna, and I have not been able to get teh cd/am/fm that I want. I hear that GN/TTyPE is back up, and they should have siome very specific instructions.

I have the fender all undone, took an hour. I just need to release the coax. Looks like it might be a side cutter job soon.
