Just curious, this power antenna is damned. And I am sick and tired of it. PERIOD. I was wondering what is needed to get it to the other antenna? Thanks!!!

Scott

Yeah mine quit and I want to go with something aftermarket myself rather then pull the fender apart. I am thinking something short and sweet.

I dont mind pulling the fender off, I just wanna know what I will need to make it like the other gns without the power antenna.

I got a fixed setup from Mike McCoy used parts.

He got me a new mast as well. GM part black.

Consisted of used mount base part with cable and the screw in mast.

Never got around to installing it yet on salvageV6.

Hopefully Mike McCoy can chime in here and drop me an email on this kit? ;)

Scott

You there mike?

Not really a kit just mostly used original parts and a new screw in mast assembly.

Not sure how many parts he's still selling but there's always Brian W. too.

Check the parts for sale for the email addy.s and give them a shout. :)

Throw me on this list, I want just a fixed, black antenna as well. I want to also know/see what all I can ditch from the power setup afterwards.
GM power antennaes = ghey. I've had a couple. One in my 87 Firebird decided to break on my way back from lunch one day. Instead of being on time for class, I was underneath the dash unplugging the motor lest I return to a dead battery (the cable in the antenna snapped, I think). The one in the GN has never worked, and is bent quite nicely.

The line in mine broke, luckily it was half way up. I pulled it up the rest of the way, but the motor wouldn't stop turning. So my dad yanked the wire (on pass side near relays) that goes to the motor. Now I have a power antenna that is always in the up position. :D Cheap fix as opposed to buying a different antenna setup.

Mine is broken too. But, I kinda like being able to put it up or down at my leisure. :p

Maybe someday I'll get around to fixing it with the solid mast version.

Here's what you guys can do. I did it when I was fed up with mine and it works rather well. Go buy a $5 normal antenna with the wire attached. Pull out the radio, unplug the crap power antenna wire. Start by jamming, finagling, and shimmying the antenna around under the front of the car in teh lip where the hood comes down. I got mine to hide completely out of sight and ver scure with zome zip ties through the many holes around there. (I also sprayed the antenna black). Then finagle the wire back through the car (I went through the door wire loom and back behind the glove box to the radio, and plug 'er in. The reception I get is about 80% as good as it would be standing up as a normal antenna, which is fine for me sinc eI barely hear the radio over the car, hehe.

another option:

why not keep the power antenna. GM has a kit avail for a rebuild and the whole job is fairly simple if you have a couple of hours and some beverages:D . If I recall, the kit cost $18 cdn which is about $3 bucks US , and now my gn has a working factory power antenna just like grandpa's regal.;)

Hey DCVING 6 mine did the exact same thing, when i plug her back in just still turns...tired of it and want a lower profile antenna, i got the gn replacement 1 foot size flexible antenna, now just want the kit to replace the motor.

I went and bought me one of those powered antennas that go inside of the windshield. It is at the top of the windshield right above the rear mirror. Can't see it if you aren't looking for it and I got stations that "shouldn't" exist. ;)

Where did you get that Crazi. I have been looking for that but i havent found someone who carries it.

I believe these window antennas were available in the earlier regals. I know my 81 had one. And damn was it convenient. Built into the windshield. If you could find one. might even be worth more than getting the whole motor replaced just to have it installed.

I bought a 1989 Chevy pickup set up. Very little modifing and it came flat black. Best friggin move I have done to date!
And I just dropped the old one down in the fender and left it there. It is still there today:)

Got it from the local stores around here. Think I bought it at Pep Boys but it might have been Autozone.

Paid 20 bucks for it and install was pretty easy once you hide the wires and stick it up with double sided tape. Has two grounds, one power (radio power) and you are done!
