Is it possible to swap in a power GN driver seat into my car that doesnt have a power seat? I was thinking maybe the wiring harness is under my seat and it would be plug-n-play?? My T has every option except the power seat....

The mounting bolts/position would be the same, but I doubt the wire is there for it, wouldn't be a big deal, just run a fused power wire to it from the fuse box.

My '85 TType did not originally have power seats. I installed a powered driver seat and the wire was there:)

Sure it can be done , mine did not have power seat but now it does just run a power wire thats hot all the time and fuse it (30amp)and a ground wire. all i did was buy a power seat track and a trim peice and it all fit on my original seat!! I got lucky and the tracks came with the harness on both sides so wireing was easy.

Ok, let me get this right, the power seat in the GN only allows it to go forward and backward? What about the back part of the seat (its manual still)??

6-way, up,down,fwd,bkwd,tilt front up,down, tilt back up,down.

Reclining part is still manual.

Ok, the reason I ask is because I may get a power GN seat and swap it in to my car. I remember when I redid my carpet that there was an unconnected wire under my seat, which I bet is the connector for the power seat option. I guess I just have to make sure to get the power seat track, and it would be plug-and-play....Anyone know what this wire is supposed to look like (orange single terminal??) Thanks

Orange/blk for the power wire.

Seat switch has a black ground wire that goes to the LH sill area floor pan.

Two wire connector to switch.

it's a no brainer .. My cars all have them .. I have a few set ups here

Very easy swap.

My 86 Gn did not have the power but a little cut in the carpet and the fuse box is right there.

I would really like to get the proper plug so that my power and ground wire is a bit more factory like.

From what I understand and from all of my years JY diving any turbo car with power windows should have the wire already there. It was much more cost effective to add it when they were putting the cars together.

BWEAVY hooked me up a couple years ago on the package. Just like they all said, orange wire to fuse block, set up the hydraulics on the bottom of the seat and adjust away.

YES, it's definitely possible to do a "factory installed appearing" installation as long as you have all the correct parts...Proof is I did it myself. :D
1˚ - You need to know that the power seat tracks are different from '81-'86 and '87. The earlier tracks ('86 ans older) have one single motor mated to a plastic transmission to move the seat in whichever direction you choose. the later tracks ('87), have three separate motors to do the job. Both models will fit in your GN, but parts aren't interchangeable between the two kinds of tracks.
2˚- Before beginning to remove your manual track, make sure you have all the parts needed (complete seat track assembly, all correct black trim pieces (8 of them!), seat panel which houses the switch, and last but not least, the original GM power wire!)

NOTE: "turbofish38", the power wire is NOT already installed at the factory if your car originally came with manual seats...sorry!

3˚- Begin by removing the manual seat from the car and also remove the door sill plate. run the orange power wire, beginning under the seat, to the area under the door sill, all the way up under the dash. don't forget to install the ground wire with a metal screw in the car's floor) Next, locate the bid white plastic power connector a little above the fuse panel and plug the connector from the orange wire into it. Next is just a matter of unbolting the manual track from the seat and bolting the power track in it's place (not forgetting to install the two long black trim pieces which bolt "or sandwiches" between the seat and upper part of the track) and begin reinstalling in the car. Once everything is bolted to the car's floor, connect the power wire to the track's connector and check to see if everything is working properly.
Then install the four smaller black plastic covers to the four "legs" of the seat, as well as the two remaining long plastic trim pieces to the lower part of the track which are held by screws at the front and at the rear. That's it!

4˚ ENJOY ! :D

Hope this helps,

Claude. :)

P.S: I also installed a power seat on the passenger side too...If interested, I can describe how to do it for a "factory installed" appearing job!

Claude good info & I agree with you on the power wire. I have never seen one on a GN that was a manual seat with a wire there. Doesn't mean it couldn't just never seen it.

On the cars I removed the plug from on the white plastic connectors has always been top row 2nd from the left.

I think I sent you a pic when I sent you the conversion. Man that was awhile ago.

Also factory install the wire is fished inside with the rest of the wires not just behind the kick panel. there are clips that have to be unfolded welded into the body. That is normally how I tell if it is factory installed or installed later.

Brian, I still have that pic you sent me in a file with all my GN stuff...:) I'd say it goes back approximately 5 years...It was a pic from the car from which the power seat track was removed, showing where to route the power wire under the seat, to the door sill, inside the plastic casing (which houses a lot of other wires), and up under the dash...
I also remember what you just said about having to route the wire into some flat metal clips (behind the kick pad I believe...) that are welded to the car's body...I did my best to do a "factory" installation, and after the driver's side was done, I decided to do the passenger's side too which also turned out looking factory installed . ;)

I thinking today it was 2002 when I sold you that bud. You should do a nice write up on that. I have done a few passenger sides myself. I go to the 3rd one from the left top connector beside the Driver side. Use the factory orange & black tracer wire. Then hide the splice in the conduit along the base of the windshield. . Down the A-pillar on the driver side & then change to the orange & black tracer wire again. I used #10 stranded orange wire in the conduit. No tracer on it. Orange wire is commonly used in commercial electrical jobs representing a 277 Volt feed.

Brian, yeah, 2002 is quite possible ...Here's an article I wrote about the right side (passenger side) power seat installation in my car in June '07, but for the benefit of those interested, here it is again:

"I finally finished the installation of a passenger side power seat in my GN. Everything has been made to look as if the car came out of the factory that way. This includes routing an original orange/black power wire under the carpet all the way to the power outlet under the dash, finding a right side plastic trim piece that houses the switches, some minor rewiring so the seat goes it the wanted direction when a switch is pushed (because when using a driver side power seat track on the passenger side, the wires have to be reversed for the up and down feature to operate correctly and then, interchanged from the front motor with the rear motor for the whole seat to go in the right direction). Last, the only thing remaining was to modify the seat "legs" so the seat is moved inboard 1 in. because the track, being made for use on the left side moves the seat too much near the door when used on the right side. This causes the seat to come in contact with the seat belt anchor in the floor. Moving the seat 1 in. solves the problem.
- That's it!...A perfect "original" looking passenger's power seat installation!
"
