I recently bought what believe is a 173,000 (not sure about the miles, its definently a GN)WE-2 code 87 Grand National. The car is in rough condition, it has been in Germany for the better part of 6 years at least and the salt from these roads has not been kind to it. Anyways it was all there and I only have $1250 in it after we got it running, that includes the $1000 purchase price. Anyways it recently had a head job and as far as I can tell everything is stock save for a plenum spacer and a ported upper plenum. The car seems peppy for the miles it has on it but I would like to boost the performance. What are easy inexpensive mods I can do until I get it back to the states where real mechanics are and where shipping doesn't take 2 weeks. The car has alot of potential, it just needs alot of TLC, I would like to fix it back stock appearing but with a little pep. I would love for it to be a low 12 second high 11 second daily driver. Any suggestions from the guru's on here would be greatly appreciated.

Check out gnttype.org. Start with the Spring cleaning and then move on to the 12 second and 11 second recepies (sp).

alcohol injection!!!

As mentioned before, read gnttype.org from front to back, and then do it again.

There are several things you should do before turning up the wick. Fuel pump and hotwire kit. Scan tool is a must. Guages for boost, oil and water etc.

Boss358c , your dream car sounds just like my dream car !!!
P.S. plan on spending some money , good luck

Thanks for the replies. Vern, I wouldn't call the GN my dream car, it was a deal that I couldn't pass up. I guess I would say my dream car would be a 85 Mustang GT but I am a muscle car fan and I think any true Muscle enthusiast wouldn't have passed on $1000 for a 87 Buick GN. So far I have thoroughly enjoyed it and don't regret purchasing it.
Question, what is a Hot wire kit? As a couple of you have mentioned I have done a semi spring cleaning, my next project is going to be the brake swap from the Power Master system to brake vaccum booster, the next is replacing a bad ball joint, window motors, oil pan gaskets, tranny filter, rear end gear oil, and a coolant flush.
Thanks for the tips.

A hot wire kit is a heavy duty wire running from fuel pump directly to alternator so your voltage doesn't drop during WOT and you get the most out of your fuel pump,

Not air filter, exhaust.

Replace the stock fuel pump and pickup sock first and hotwire kit it.
