I PUT A HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP ON MY BUILT GRAND NATIONAL ENGINE 109 BLOCK AND IN 20 MILES IT WIPED OUT NUMBER 3 ROD BEARING AND LOCKED UP 5 OF THE 6 WRIST PINS. IT ALSO WIPED TWO LOPES OFF THE CAM. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYELSE HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE. IS IT POSSIBLE THE PUMP COULD OF SUCKED THE PAN OUT OF OIL. LOOKING FOR ANSWERS.

Which type did you get? The spacer type or the front cover that has the length built in? Also where did you buy it?-did you make sure you used the taller gear set?-just wondering because I am having trouble with one right after install. still working to find exactly what is wrong.

That sounds unusual, however, i have heard that some of these HV covers have "slag" buildup in some of the ports, especially the one that feeds into the block.

Did you pack the gears with grease or vasoline? You must prime these oil pumps before you start the engine or you'll have happen exactly what has happened to you.

yes, i had 60-70 oil pressure when engine was started and about 20 when engine was hot at idle. no, the engine was not primed with a drill.

Why would you blame the oil pump? I've been running a HV pump for over 100,000 miles. What all did you have done on your "built" motor? Maybe the cam wasn't broke in properly. Maybe something wasn't assembled correctly.

the only reason this could be from the pump is if you did not check the end clearance and put put contaminants into the oiling system from the gears trying to clearance themselves.

otherwise the pump is not to blame.

race jace what kind of oil pump do you use? hv or stock. the motor was built by the same guy i always use and the last rebuilt lasted me 4yrs. mostly all 1/4 mile miles. till i went with the alu. heads last year and blew both head gaskets out. that is when, on this rebuilt i went with the hv oil pump and now i have big problems.

I use the HV pump in my motor and most of the motors i build.
