OK, I got my first set of drag radials, BFG's. Going to the track sunday. What psi should I run them?Brand new tires.....small or big burnout?
Thanks,
Chris:D

Don't go lower than 18 psi with a stock rim and a 275 wide DR. The PSI you pick is NOT as important as having a proper contact patch. Lower than 18 psi with a 7" wide rim and they will cup in the center. With an 8" wide rim, you can go down to 16 psi.

You don't have to go that low, though as I've cut 1.65 60fts with 24 PSI on a prepped track.

The BIGGEST variable that determines traction with DR's is cleanliness. Dirty tires on a dusty track will provide the least traction, Clean tires on a prepped track will provide the most.

Once you have done your first burn out of the night your tires will be "open". Driving through dirt, crushed rock, gravel, and grass (in order from absolute worst to least worse) will kill the tires traction, so avoid these. Park on pavement and bring a bristle brush to clean the tires in the pits or staging lanes. A light burn will open them back up if they are clean. Otherwise a John Force Burnout may be required, every time. If you are seeing balled rubber on the tread, do a smaller burn out.

Don't expect the tires to work on "street nights" when the track is not prepped or swept and front drivers and pickups are dropping crap and rubber chunks past the starting line.

I had 235-60-15's ran 22psi at track with light burnout. On the street 30psi to and from track only.:D

thanks for the info guys.....

also, i heard people have had better results by removing the pinion snubber.....do you recommend this? I have one of the larger aftermarket ones in there....

Removed the long snubber back to stock and installed bag on pass side 15 psi track-7psi street.

Frank how did you make out at the track with the 235-60-15
did you get a good 60 foot time?People tell me that the 235-60 is to small of a tire but my car is all stock and i don't want them to rub at all. Thanks

I just do burn outs with different tire pressure until the patch looks firm all the way accross the mark on the ground.

Got 1.60 60' times with 275 50 BFG DR's sotck everything in the rear except for KYB's, 8.5" rims, and air bags. There was about 20 psi in the tires.

I remember a time that one *had* to have the long pinion snubber - so what changed?

well, it figures I threw away the stock pinion snubber.....should I leave the bigger one there or remove it? (another lesson learned....always save old parts) Is it unsafe to remove...should I just leave well enough alone?

I don't know what changed with the pinion snubber deal...I ran a search and there is lots of talk about how "useless" they are. (supposedly prevents hooking up well).

Just remove it. I don't have any pinion snubber at all on my car.
