I have a rattling noise that sounds like a loose piece of tin,it seems to be coming from the exhaust...I had checked all the nuts, bolts and clamps and they are all tight....I then jacked the car up and ran it while I felt the exhaust from the manifolds all the way back to the tail pipes(with gloves on of course).....and nothing....I even checked the flywheel bolts and they are all tight! The next thing I thought was maybe the turbo? Has anyone ever had a problem like this before? Any suggestions on what it could be would be greatly appriated!

Check your heat shields on the headers and over the cat. convertor. Sometimes the welds holding the shield to the pipe break causing a rattle.

Agree, I had a shield on my driver's side exhaust come loose, and rattle a bit. Good place to check. Movement was barely noticeable, but there was some.

I found I had a slight tinny niose coming from the PS breather shield which bolts to the back of the turbo bracket. If you take a rubber mallet and smack the turbo shield it may help you find anything in that area as it helped me find mine. These engines have an interesting vib at certain rpm ranges and can really shake some stuff around.

Could the noise/ rattle be coming from within your muffler? I had an internal baffle let loose on one of my mufflers which caused a similar problem. Mine sounded like rattling tin too. Only correction for that was a muffler replacement.

I checked ALL the heat shields....and found nothing....Will check the mufflers, that is a possiabilty....It's realy weird, some times it sounds like it is coming from the front of the car and some times from the back?? Will le tyou know how I make out....thanks for the suggestions.

my torque converter made a rattling noise before it went bad- took me a long time to figure out what the noise was- i too thought it was in my exhaust system

Does it do it just when you put it in gear ? If it does it only when you have it in gear it is more than likely the convertor.

O.K...found where the noise was coming from....I am running a 3" down pipe, that is where it was rattling from, there is a little round flapper in there and that was it....Now the question? Why is it so loose ? Should there be a spring or something to hold pressure on it? or should it be loose?

Yes, the actuator arm is hooked up. Also should it be hard to move the flapper arm? Mine was so tight I had to move it with a pair of pliers and thats how I got the rattle to stop, but then the boost went crazy....shooting to 25psi and my knock gauge went crazy? and the temp also shot up to 200(always runs at 180)? So I had to turn it back to where it was and then came the rattle back.

You have the wastegate actuator arm hooked up or not?

Who's downpipe? If it's an ATR, they are notorious for sticking. They might repair it; best to call regardless. Haven't heard of problems on any other brand.
