Ok..I purchased new relays (all 3) for the fans. Wired the fans per archived posts concerning rc fan install to maintain AC kick on. Used factory middle pin off the original fan and soldered it to "both" red wires (inside the gn adapter) instead of just one.

Of course, I unplug the delay and everything stops. However, I can only turn the fans on with the key on using my ground switch (goes to green/yellow on high speed relay). This is NOT what I wanted. Note, I can turn the fans on with key on ONLY if the delay is unplugged....otherwise fans are spinning like the car is overheating

I'm still trying to get a fan override with the key off and the delay would've given me this (so I thought). Outside of leaving it unplugged, what might be causing the cont. power? (please, don't suggest leaving the delay unplugged...I know I can do it but I don't want to).

Checked my ashtray switches and everything is fine. Oh...relay makes I funny buzz every so often and there is a small but noticeable decrease in fan rpm. I'm guessing it is trying to shutdown, but for some reason it still gets power.

Long post, I know, but I don't know how to keep this short since I'm a noob at wiring. Any help is appreciated!!!

Update:

Went through the grounds of the wiring diagram. I didn't find any sensors/switches bad (AC or coolant temp switches). How, I disconnected all the possible sources of a "completed" ground in the delay fan circuit.....same problem.

Next, made double sure that my switch wasn't grounding the circuit...disconnected...nothing changed. Wired switch again and left delay off with other 2 relays connected = switch works, but only with the key on (fans aren't running otherwise). Again, I tried disconnecting every single switch or sending unit on the AC and front of the block....no change.

So I know my switch will work with the key on, but I'm not able to check if it will work with the key off

I pulled apart the relay to see what was moving when I plugged it in and it doesn't seem to have anything wrong. The only thing it seems to be doing is responding to a ground and allowing the magnet to activate which pulls a metal contact into place thus completing the circuit whenever I plug in that side of the relay.

Basically, I don't think the relay is bad...but I'm getting signals to the relay to close the circuit = fan power.

Did everything I could...now I need your help.

Please ;)

Ok...nobody is helping, so I'm heading back to the dealer with the relay. I looked over that circuit diagram for hours and came up with the conclusion that this relay HAS to be bad!!

If not, then I'd see the fans kick on with the other 2 relays plugged in, key ON, and delay disconnected. If there was a ground in the green/yellow ANYWHERE, it would turn on the "high speed" relay (I know, it isn't high speed).

According to the diagram, the only way the delay will ever charge that magnet is if the current is allowed to cross....to the green/yellow ground. Since it activates immediately after I plug in that side of the relay (and following many many tests), it has to be the relay. Odd thing is that it looks to be operating correctly when pulled apart and plugged in.

Not sure, but I'm going to have them look at it and see what they can do....which I'm sure is "hey, you could buy another one and try it". Jerks

Of course, if you have an idea, please...I'm open to any and all!!

Nothing like a conversation with yourself :D

But now somebody really has to step in with the knowledge. Of course, nobody could help me at the dealer in determining the quality of function...so I'm back.

Main question and what seems to be the problem (at least it makes sense to me):

...Should this relay activate when given power and a ground on the "non-magnetic" portion. Meaning, if you go the the temp site of gnttype.org and take note of the wiring scheme for fan relays, you'll notice that the constant hot and constant ground are across one area and the only way the power should "charge" the magnet is with a grounding of the green/yellow wire. Like I said before, I disconnected everything and the fans still get power with the delay plugged in.

fan wiring

However, if anyone can tell me if their delay clicks when plugged in (contact moving over) or if mine sounds bad...I need to know. I don't know who to turn to now and I'm still trying my best to get this thing working.

Thanks,

If the fans arent on high at key on with the delay unplugged, that means they are wired right. If they come on with your switch, that means thats wired right. Sinc the delay relay gets energized by the high fan relay, but its working correctly, its a pretty cut and dry diag that the delay relay is bad.

Good, so I'm not going crazy. I hate to say it, but I wasted the money and now I'm going to leave it unplugged.

Looks like a "key on" override for me...which I guess isn't that big of a deal, but not what I wanted :(

I'd still like a way to know without a doubt that this thing is bad for the price....call it anger management.

Thanks,
