I haven't tightened the VC's in a while and figure I go tighten them. Is there a sequence when tightening the covers?

Chris- Cross and don't go to tight it's easy to bend the sheet metal and make it leak even more.

Some one suggest to me to use a hand held nut driver and tighten them that way , It worked for me.

"...it's easy to bend the sheet metal..."
What sheet metal? My valve covers are pretty beefy along the rails, I think it's cast aluminum (??) from the factory.

i have the black Buick motorsports valve covers. are they constructed of the same material as the stock ones?

Sorry, My engine is a 1979 . It has the stamped steel Valve covers.

THey are BOTH cast aluminum. Do the "cris-cross" thing but as said before.....don't go CRAZY on torque....Nothing good will come of it!!!

I pulled mine off {what a frickin job for just valve covers...I am so used to those EASY late 60's Big Blocks } to clean them up using a polishing wheel.......came up REAL nice too!

When I installed them I used a TINY amount of a flexible sealant
between the heads and the gasket....it's not necessary, but I really didn't want another leak!!! And after almost 6 months they are as dry as a bone :D
