for some unknown reason the preivous owner of the car cut out the center section where the rear seat braces from kirbans would bolt to. I bought them with out knowing that it was missing. kinda sucks but is it possible to instal those sections from another car? and how hard would it be? i have a 1987 cutlass doner car i can take it off of has anybody tried to do this or had to do this?

an idea

just get a piece or the same gauge steel or slightly thicker and have it welded in from the bottom to the top in the center of the trunk, it'll give you something to bolt the braces to. You can also measure the donor piece and have it cut to fit then weld it in, but it'll take lots of patience to get it right. I'd just weld in a piece of steel then cover the back of the seat with some carpet material to hide the mod. and just let the braces show, or cover them up too, this way it still looks stock and you'll get the benifit of the braces

well its a long winter here in Michigan so i think i can find some time to try anything

Some G bodies, Gran Prixs, maybe, came with a seat back structure that had built in "X" bracing. So, if you're going to weld something in, maybe you could check the bone yards, and find one of those.

If you are going to weld in the center piece to bolt the bars on to, how about welding an entire piece that will add the bracing and not use the bars at all ?

That would be similar to the Kenne-bell seat brace that was available several years ago, although I think that was a bolt on too. And I think that design was based on the GNX design ?

I am sure with a one-piece, welded-in unit it would be stronger than bolting on the bars. And easy since you have to do it anyway. (?)

Hit up the junkyard and cuyout the piece plus a little from another regal and walla .....it is OEM and weld er in

If you are going to do some welding get that part from a 81-87 GP. Its the same one that was used on the GNX. And it was the same part KB sold.

man i used to own a 84 gp years ago but never kept it now just have the cutlass but i may give it a look for one of those
