I just got a rebuildable turbo engine. Does anybody know of any vendors offering a "rebuild kit"? I am looking for a complete package sort of thing, with pistons, cam, rods and that sort of thing. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

There maybe vendors offering kits but I would lean more to seeing what you need. First have the block, heads crank and rods checked. If you do this make sure you take it to someone familiar with buicks. If you do not you will be sorry. If the bores are OK and the rods are ok, I would recondition the rods, hone the cylinders for new rings. Install new bearings in the cam and mains and rods. Make sure the clearances are set correct. If this engine came with a stock cam and it and the lifters are in good shape I would just reuse them. However if you are looking a performance rebuild then I woul look at possibly getting an aftermarket cam. The stocker does run pretty good. I would keep as much stock stuff as I can. The stock rods and pistons will go along way whether racing or just as a street strip or cruiser. Of course if you want to go radical then you need to start looking at alternatives.

Thanks for the information guys. Machinegun, I am actually looking to do a happy medium between performance and radical. I will of course depend on the financial situation.

i'm wanting to rebuild too but i need some thoughts from anyone who has used any of these kits out there. first off i'm wanting to go into the low 12's high 11's eventually so i dont' NEED a performance built motor but it would probably pay off to do what i can while i'm in the engine.

summit sells a kit for $230 or $320, its just oil pump, pistons and bearings and gaskets.

one of the vendors here, i forget who it was sells one with most internal parts, everythign summit has plus valve springs, timming chains, rocker arms, push rods, "performance" cam (don't know what kind that is)

while i'm at it i plan on pulling the engine and having it bored .030 over maybe have it blanced depending on how money is looking. I'll also clean up the heads and maybe bore it for bigger valves (does that help much in our cars?)

are there any other good kits out there that are a little less money or better buys?

also whats the difference between cast hypereutectic (thats that?) and forged as for as what would you would need goes?

thanks in advance!

Hey Red,
Its great to hear from you!! I have been meaning to call you for sometime now, but I have been on travel the last six months. You seem to spring up at just the right time. I think that I will be going to Postons and getting each part seperate. I would like to make a high 10 or low 11 second engine, but it will take me a while to get the funds. I will try and give you a call sometime when my work load lets up. My cell is still the same, 871-8937. Talk to you soon.

Jack
