Is this a difficult job requiring special tools or is it simple? My regulator may need a rebuild and I was weighing the options of doing it myself or by a vendor. I'm not even sure if it is an option to do it myself so I thought I'd check here to see. By the way, what are the symptoms of one needing a rebuild? Mine is from MM. A few symptoms my car has which leads me to believe mine is bad is extended cranking time to start. The car shuts off the 1st time or two, then runs. It will blow alot of black smoke out when it starts and finally stays running, then the smoke goes away. This makes me think the regulator is leaking fuel and flooding the engine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A Regulator really cannot leak fuel into your motor.....If anything it sounds as if one of your injectors is getting stuck open when you turn the car off. That in turn will empty your fuel rail into the one cly.

-What do your plugs look like?

-Does your oil have a gas smell to it?

If the diaphragm leaks, where do you think it goes? Right up the vacuum hose and into the intake manifold. And acts just like One Lethal is describing. An easy way to find out is to pull the hose while it's running, if fuel squirts out, it's bad.

Thanks. I'll give it a try if it ever quits raining. BTW, haven't pulled the plugs yet to look at them. The new engine only has about 15 or so miles on it. I did change the oil and it seemed fine.
